Hotel Review: Geopark Inn, Langkawi

Langkawi is the jewel of Kedah and many Kedah folks bemoan the fact that whenever Kedah is mentioned, most of the time, Langkawi is the one that comes to mind. It is after all a tropical paradise in the Andaman sea , just off the coast of Kedah, quite close to Perlis and South of Thailand…

Langkawi is also rich in legends, beautiful views and islands and an abundant of glorious marine life….

Furthermore, it is a duty free haven where locals head to get reasonably priced branded dishwares, pots and pans, chocolates and so on….a perfect getaway for locals from the hectic rat race since it is only a half an hour’s flight from Penang, an hour’s flight from KL, or you can take the ferry from Perlis which only takes about 45 minutes or the ferry from Kuala Kedah which will take a little longer at 75 minutes..

Geopark Inn Langkawi

In my recent overnight trip to Langkawi, we put up at the Geopark Inn located at Pekan Rabu, Kuah there…

Address: Komplek Pekan Rabu, Level 3, Pekan Kuah, Langkawi 07000 Kedah Malaysia

A small water feature emitting comforting sounds of trickling water at the entrance…

Geopark Inn Langkawi has a 24-hour reception counter with luggage storage space. There are free parking facilities are offered to those who drive and ironing facilities are available upon request. The reception area is pretty small but quite comfortable and welcoming with a little lounge/ sitting area to the left (facing the reception)…

The Geopark Inn Langkawi is a 5minute drive from the iconic Eagle Square and CHOGM park. You can also check-out Al-Hana Mosque,  and the local night market, approximately about a 3-minute walk away. and it is just about 25 minutes drive away from the Langkawi International Airport .

My room- Superior room

There are about 78 air-conditioned guestrooms, and I was given a Superior room to stay in. I had the room to myself, which came with two beds, and I chose my bed and laid my luggage atop the other bed.

The room was pretty clean and comfortable with pretty fast and good complimentary wireless Internet access to keep me connected, and there is a flat screen television available, mounted on the wall, but I only manage to watch local programmes… Conveniences include phones, as well as coffee/tea makers and complimentary bottled water.

Each room here comes you with a flat-screen TV, a large wardrobe and tea/coffee making facilities.

The toilet is also clean and works well….

I found the bathroom clean and also nice. The shower works as well as expected and you get clean warm water . The basic amenities provided here are soap, shower gel and shampoo and you get nice clean towels as well…

Take a little stroll to the jetty area and you can see the majestic eagle sculpture there, the symbol of Langkawi…However, if you are hoping for a beach, there is none here…

You can however enjoy the glorious view at dusk, which is simply breathtaking with the myriad of colours converging in the vast open sky just before the sun makes its final decent for the day…

My thoughts……

What I like about the hotel: Easy check in, rooms are very clean and comfortable, and there are plenty of food shops, food stalls around to cater to your taste.. For those who wants to shop for chocolates, duty free pots, pans, cutleries and dinner sets and so on, there is Ram’s duty free about 3-5 minutes walk away…The room rates are pretty reasonable and I think you do get what you pay for….

What I did not quite like about the hotel: My room was located across the lane and the corridor leading the the room was somewhat a little greasy/ oily. I am also a little worried about safety, since there is a lift which is easily accessible by anyone but then Langkawi is relatively safe as you can even leave the cars unlocked and anywhere.. LOL, just practice a little more common sense and precaution and you will be fine…
