Review: Concorde Hotel Shah Alam “Citarasa Negeri Selat” Feast…

When you are around Klang or Shah Alam area, and in search of a great place to break your fast after a whole day of fasting, you should of course, look no further then the Concorde Shah Alam, the ideal place to unwind in a lovely ambience as well as to dine to your heart’s delight..

And yours truly was there with some blogger friends to check out their spread on invitation..and I found the spread to be pretty impressive and exceeded my expectations…

For this coming Ramadan, Concorde Hotel Shah Alam is presenting the “Citarasa Negeri Selat” feast for their valued guests.

From the north of the Peninsula all the way down to the south of Malaysia, they have specially selected and will be presenting the authentic flavors of traditional dishes that can from the straits settlements that is Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Malacca and Johor in their Ramadan buffet.

Be prepared to indulge your senses in these all-time favorite dishes from these various states after a day of fasting….

Begin your Iftar with the various selections of sweet dates that you can choose from the counter and tempt your taste buds with local appetizers like Kerabu Betik Muda, Kerabu Daging Rusa, Kerabu Mangga Muda, Bergedil Ayam, Aneka Jeruk Buah-Buahan, Ulam – ulam Kampung and Aneka Keropok.

 Be sure to check out at the Roast Corner where you can find Ayam Golek and Kambing Panggang aka Roasted Lamb served with condiments and a selection of sauces..I just loved the roasted lamb with the black pepper sauce….

Hailing from Selat Pulau Pinang you can find favorite dishes such as the Ayam Goreng Berempah, Daging Rusa Bukhara, Kari Kepala Ikan, Ketam Goreng Berempah, and Kobis Goreng Kunyit Biji Sawi, prepared to perfection by the chefs to preserve the authentic flavours.

Some of the signature dishes from Selat Melaka includes the Asam Pedas Ikan Pari, Asam Pedas Daging, Sotong Portugis, Ayam Cencaluk, Ikan Bawal Masam Manis, Sambal Udang Petai, Peria Goreng Telur and Pucuk Paku Goreng which are all simply irresistible.  I had double helpings of the Asam Pedas Ikan Pari and Sotong Portugis… huhuh – what a glutton huh… no wonder I cannot slim down…

Then there is the Briyani Daging Rusa, Briyani Daging, Ayam Masak Merah, Kambing Kurma, Pucuk Manis Masak Lemak, Puyuh Goreng and Sayur Tempe Goreng all the way from Selat Tebrau …

The Baked Beef Kofta Chives Cheese Sauce, Marinated Chicken Cumin Lemon Yoghurt, Cajun Marinated Mini Beef Entrecote, Lemon Coriander John Dory, Green Peppercorn Marinated Beef Medallions and Baked Marinated Chicken in Barbeque Sauce are some of the must-try dish that you should not miss out on! Those Green Peppercorn Marinated Beef Medallions are really something else..!!!

The buffet also offers all-time favourite soups and other delicacies at the Tiga Selat Corner. Whet your appetite with Bubur Lambuk , Ayam Dara Lada Hitam and Bubur Lambuk Daging Batang Pinang. 

To add to the taste, Sup Gearbox, Sup Ayam Berempah, Mee Hoon Teochew, Mee Bandung, Ayam Tandoori Roti Naan, Laksa Johor as well as Roti Benggali which can be dipped and eaten with the various choices of soups.

Sate and grilled dishes lovers should not miss out on the sate they can find here as well…. as other made to order grill dishes like meat or seafood….

Also do not forget to check out the continental dishes at the counter. Pick your favourite salad from their salad bar which include Roman Salad, Mesclum Salad, Seafood Mediterranean Salad, Tomato Cucumber Salad and Carrots and Cashew Nuts Salad and try them with our French Dressing, Caesar Dressing or Italian Dressing.

Give your meal some sweet endings with some Tiramisu Chocolate Cake, Durian Cheese Cake, Sago Gula Melaka, Agar-agar Tembikai Susu, Americano Cheesecake, Lychee Panna Cotta, Kuih-kuih Melayu and so on! These desserts or ‘kueh’ are simply flavoursome… and irresistible..I for one cannot stop popping those jellies in my mouth….

The Management and other team members of Concorde Hotel Shah Alam were clearly thrilled to welcome the crowd that came to enjoy their Bubur Lambuk, a yearly event at Concorde Hotel Shah Alam. Distributing Bubur Lambuk prior to the Ramadan month has been one of the hotel’s annual events since 2004, making this the 12th consecutive year for this meaningful event.

The Bubur Lambuk preparations and cooking process began at 8:30am, with Management and other team members assisting the chefs for the day. About 300kilos of rice, 25 kilos of dried shrimp and 100 kilos of beef were painstakingly cooked in big pots over slow fire. Before packing them into 8,000 containers to be given away.

The distribution began around at 4.00pm but crowds started to build up as early as 3.30pm. The hotel’s driveway and entrance were packed with vehicles, all eagerly wanting to get their packets waiting for their container of Bubur Lambuk.

The hotel driveway was turned into a ‘drive-thru’ lane, and the hotel also delivered some Bubur Lambuk to the mosques, orphanages and underprivileged homes nearby. Just before 7.00pm, all 8,000 containers of Bubur Lambuk were distributed.

Breaking fast at Concorde Hotel Shah Alam is also convenient as Concorde Hotel have a Surau and Imam for jamaah Isya’ and Terawih prayers situated at level 3.

Priced at RM118.00nett per adult, the ‘Citarasa Negeri Selat’ Ramadan Buffet is available at Melting Pot Café (Lobby Level) and Grand Ballroom of Concorde Hotel Shah Alam.

During the first and last 3 days of Ramadan month, diners enjoy special price of RM95.00nett per adult and RM47.50nett per child.  On other days, **1 diner break fast for free with every 10 paying guests.
