Tuk Tuk is a 3-wheel vehicle that is used in crowded cities such as Bangkok. For those who never seen it before, the picture is as below… it is a cross between a motorbike with a rickshaw…
Anyway, Mr Tuk Tuk is a restaurant located at the Lower Ground Floor (somewhere in front of Cold Storage) serving delicious street food favorites from the streets of Thailand at a comfortable and affordable setting. This is the second Mr Tuk Tuk that has opened, with the first Mr Tuk Tuk outlet being at the Setia City Mall.
Yours truly was one of the lucky few first people to try out some of the dishes on the delicious menu here
You will not miss it by the Tuk Tuk that doubles as a ordering counter. The interior of the place is very modern and cosy with nice decor. I like how to put a poster of Thai Street signs etc and also wooden planks on the wall in a pretty artistic manner…
There is also a generous variety of Thai Street food favorites ranging from Tom Yam, Thai Mango Salad, Phat Thai , and so much more…. I know I had a hard time picking up my favorites as there was just so many of my favorite dishes there…
Fortunately, since we were there in a group, I got to taste quite a lot of dishes, and so because of this I have to say it would be a great idea to come to this restaurant and dine with your family and friends and order a bit of everything to share…
Let’s go through some of the dishes I got to indulge in and try…
Thai Food is never complete without a good Thai soup… This would be the Tom Kha soup with Chicken (RM8.80) Tom Kha translates to Thai Chicken Coconut soup and it gets its rich flavor from quintessential Thai ingredients which is basically coconut milk, lemongrass, ginger, lime juice, chilli paste, basil and cilantro. I do like it… It is quite like Tom Yam but with a different colour and texture…
Then of course the quintessential Tom Yam Sea Food Soup (RM11.80) …Personally, no Thai Food meal is complete without a good Tom Yam soup and this one nails it for me… flavorful enough as well as spicy enough…
If you like something light, you might appreciate or enjoy these dishes.. The Thai Pomelo Salad (RM11.80) is great for those who is watching their weight or trying to eat clean as well as the Lab Kai (RM9.80), a platter of Thai ulam-ulaman/ local salad eaten with the spicy minced chicken / nuts mixture – this does reminds me a bit of Mieng Kam but it is not the same…
The Fried Chicken Wings (RM8.80) marinated with Tom Yam is crispy, crunchy and the flesh is just succulent and juicy…
The Fried Kangkung (RM9.80) which is deep fried crispy tempura kangkung… dipped in a rich slightly sour sauce, you will find it hard to stop munching on this.. sometimes one serving is so not enough……
If you prefer something more filling, try the Fried Glass Noodles (RM8.80) which is pretty flavorful and best eaten piping hot…
Or try out the Salted Fish Fried Rice (RM8.80) which taste pretty good…
Or have some delicious Phat Thai (RM8.80) lovingly blanketed with a nice omelette…..Now I have tried some Phat Thai dishes which can be overwhelmingly sweet and I really do not like it… but this one has just the perfect right taste for me…thumbs up!!!
I got to end my meal with a perfect quenching Fresh Watermelon Lychee juice (RM8.80),and a Fresh Whole Coconut (RM9.80) as it is the fasting month and I was just soooooooo thirsty….
As for a sweet ending to all that very flavorful and delicious meal, I had some Taco (3pcs RM6.90) which tasted exactly like tepung pelita but with sweet corn in it…, some Mango Sticky Rice (RM7.90) and of course my all time favorite… the Water Chestnut in Coconut Cream (Red Ruby /Tab Tim Krob RM6.90 – See I like it so much I can memorize it’s Thai name too LOL)
The last and not least is the Tuk Tuk Artisan Ice Cream (RM6.90)… for the adventurous and the brave… somewhat a fear factor challenge, considering the two flavors which is Green Curry and Tom Yam… Normally everyone finds the Thai Milk Tea ice cream easier and nicer on our palate.. and trying the other two is a challenge.. very much like the Super Spicy Ramen.. I did it.. and so would you? Would you dare to try it?
Actually, it is not as bad as it sounds.. the Green Curry Ice Cream is somewhat interestingly nice…whereas the Tom Yam one is definitely slightly spicy not just with chilli.. you can feel the spice in it…Dare you take the challenge???
You can… this Artisan Ice Cream is now only RM1 with every set meal or main dish !! The promotion is on until 30th June 2016 only here at the Sunway Pyramid outlet of Mr Tuk Tuk, so take this opportunity to try it out…
