Universal Studios Singapore was opened back in 2010 and I can still remember how thrilled I was about it.. and we visited it back then as well…  so after a few years, and since my youngest daughter is now grown up, she wanted to visit again and here we are back at the Universal Studios Singapore..

The Universal Studios Singapore consists of 7 themed zones – Madagascar, Far Far Away, The Lost World, Ancient Egypt, Sci-Fi City and New York. Be sure to grab one of the Studio’s maps and time table so you can plan where to go and what to do….

Each of these themed zone has its own attractions, shopping, eating establishments and street entertainment around the theme.

You will find interesting rides, street performances, live shows and movie characters.

Madagascar was one of my daughter’s favourite movies back then. Like who can resist that catchy ‘I like to move it move it’ song by King Julien…..

The Madagascar: Crate Adventure ride is perfect for the whole family from the young ones to the old ones as there one takes you on a river boat/flume ride with the well loved characters from the movie.  For the little kiddies, do not miss out  on King Julien’s Beach Party Go Round… it is a big carousel where you can sit on cute characters from the movie franchise…. There are also times you can meet the characters from Madagascar, and pose for photos.

From Madagascar, head over the Far Far Away where it is all about about Shrek … here you can climb on the junior roller coaster ‘Enchanted Airways’ , enter Shrek’s castle for the Shrek 4 D Adventure where you can see, hear and FEEL the action from your seat… be prepared to get sneezed on etc… then there is the cute little ferris wheel ‘Magic Potion Spin’ inside Fairy Godmother’s Potion Shop, ideal for the younger kids as well…. Or go and get tickled with ‘Donkey LIVE’ where Donkey will make you laugh….

Do not miss out the new ‘Puss in Boots’s Giant Journey’ which is also the world’s first suspended roller coaster themed after the franchise. This is a ride suitable for those above 100cm in height, so it is not so recommended for small kids because of safety issues…

The two minute ride will make you follow Puss In Boots and Kitty Softpaws as they go in search of the precious golden eggs in a bid to save San Ricardo’s Orphanage, which has fallen on hard times but get prepared to be chased by the huge mother goose as well!!

Join Puss In Boots on this amazing anti-gravity swashbuckling flight. At the peak of the ride, you will be able to get a bird’s eye view of Far Far Away in USS. My daughter loved this a lot…

This Jurassic themed land has five great attractions including the WaterWorld live stunt show. I distinctly remember the Water World show from a previous visit but my daughter refused to go for it this time around saying it was noisy… basically it is live action stunt show with plenty of pyrotechnics and I guess it must have been too much for her when she visited there when she was much younger… There are people falling off boats and high places, people shooting at each other and explosions… Personally, I feel it is a great way to see how films are made minus anyone really getting hurt!

There are three rides at the Lost World. They included ‘Canopy Flyer’ a suspended roller coaster, ‘Dino-Saurin’ flying on those huge prehistoric birds and the ‘Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure’. We wanted to go on the rides, but there was only two of us and they absolutely forbade us to bring any carry ons, cameras or our bags (even though I had a small waterproof bag) . This was kind of a downside as this means I had to rent a locker and these lockers were pretty pricey..

Having to pay SG$20 for a locker to store our belongings just cause they didn’t allow us to have any belongings for rides here at the Lost World and I think the Battlestar Galactica rides is a little too much. And because of this, and that I did not have anyone else to watch my belongings, my daughter and I had to skip these rides….

You can get to be ‘Treasure Hunters’ on a jeep ride through an abandoned Egyptian excavation site…. Or go for the ‘Revenge of the Mummy’, an indoor coaster with drops and high speed turns. There are no 360 degree flips in the coaster so it’s more of a fun coaster than it is a scary one. The mummy is also a highly popular ride and queues can go up to 2hours or more.

‘Revenge of the Mummy’ starts your adventure with a scene of an explorer being mummified alive. He warns you to find the Book of the Living, for it is the key to defeating Imhotep. You are then immediately taken to the treasure chamber, where Imhotep tempts you with riches where in return you have to pledge your soul to him, ‘or else.’ Guards descend from the ceiling, as you are turned toward a crypt of scarab beetles. The coaster then darts backward and turns as Imhotep taunts you with the warning ‘Death is just the beginning’…. My daughter came out of the ride with a ‘wow’ ….

You cannot bring any belonging on this ride as well but somehow the lockers here allow you to keep your things here for free at time limit (half an hour or so I think, before they start to charge you)

Sci-Fi City brings you the amazing Battlestar Galactica coasters…. The blue one and the red one… which again we had to miss out on because of the pretty unreasonable locker requirements and charges…

Then there is the Transformers ride which is not a roller coaster, but a 4-D experience that is perfect for both the young and old.

You will be taken through a 4-D experience from your Autobot Machine(EVAC) and help out in the battle as you watch Optimus Prime and Megatron fight. The ride by itself is not scary  but it is surely a very unique experience that EVERYONE have to try at least once.

I kid you not, my daughter who is not a Transformers fan unlike her brothers had an amazing time and came out with her eyes sparkling……

There is also the Accelerator, a spinning ride younger kids can enjoy….

New York comes with the Sesame Street Stage Shows where my daughter and I got to watch ‘When I Grow Up’, a twelve-minute live show starring Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Bert, Ernie, Grover and Abby Cadabby.

This is ideal for small kids but big kids like my 12 year old enjoyed it as well.. she said it was a step back into her childhood… and of course, take time to enjoy the bubbles after the show..

The Spaghetti Space Chase ride is located in a corner building New York @ USS. It is just next to the Sesame Street stage shows… You can see Super Elmo perched high above on the building just as you come out from the theatre….

As you walk towards your spaceship, you will see that spaghetti had been missing from the menu, all on the headlines splashed on the walls. Super Grover and Elmo are on the lookout for the cause of the disappearance. We are joining these Superheroes in their quest to save the spaghetti!

Elmo comes on the little screen in our space ship to inform us of the missing spaghetti, and that they have found the main villain which are “Macaroni the Merciless” and his partners in crime “Zester” and “Shredder”. They are the villians and the latest Sesame Street characters specially created for this ride.

The ride started with a cruise through Sesame Street where you are cheered on by the Sesame Street gang.

The ride takes off literally as we were transported to space with many pretty stars to light up the way.. There is some slight elevation and tilt along this 2 minutes ride. However the spaceship is slow moving and absolutely safe for any small kids. There are about 7 amazing scenes during the ride so enjoy… my daughter loved it…

There is suppose to be the Lights, Camera, Action by Steven Spielberg there as well where you can actually encounter or feel how it is like to be trapped in a major hurricane and I have been on this before but this time around it was closed for maintenance…we got to meet up with the cutesy Betty Boop there though..

The park starts and finishes in Hollywood and there are no rides here, rather lots of shops, diners and well, the best place to meet and greet the characters….

My daughter and I got to meet the Minions, Marilyn Monroe, Beetlejuice and Frankenstein…..

My daughter and I got the express pass.  This is an additional cost on top of the entry price but it is so worth it and very time saving as you do not have to wait so long for those popular ride because if you take into account the ride queues that can go over an hour and having to stop for parade, food etc, chances are that you won’t be able to cover much of the rides in the park in one day. It allows you to feel like a VIP as you do not have to wait in line for long, and cut the queues and and get straight on.  It was truly amazing and I recommend it.

There is also the Hollywood Dream Parade that happens on selected Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays so if you are there on those days, do not miss it.. sadly I missed it since I was there on a Monday….

Overall, my daughter and I had a great time despite the weather which was constantly drizzling then and the only setback was the locker issue, other then that, we had an amazing time and will definitely be back for more…

Universal Studios Singapore is located on Sentosa, an island off main land Singapore and the best way to get to Universal Studios Singapore is:

Head towards Harbourfront Mrt station located on the Purple Line… go to Vivocity and head to the 3rd floor – follow the signs to the monorail station… Locate the Monorail station where you can either use your Ez-link card (if you have one) or purchase a one time admission ticket (SG$4) at a counter nearby to enter. Take the monorail to exit 1 and get off at the Waterfront station. Walk straight until you come across the iconic Universal Studio Globe ….
