This was one of the rare times I got to see, feel and try on some of the most expensive jewellery around… and it felt awesome….

Then we were all ushered out of the shop to watch Ms Shirley Wong and Ms Kristal Tin decked out in Lukfook’s jewellery dot the eyes of the lions. The Chinese lion dance has a tradition in China more than a thousand years to give them good luck, health, blessing and prosperity. These objective and concepts gave birth to Feng Shui and the Chinese dragon and lion subsequently. However, to empower the lion to do its duty, it is brought to life by the eye dotting ceremony using the powder of cinnabar (jee sa) soaked in water will be used.

The first part to be dotted will be the mirror on the front of the lion’s head, this is known as the ‘third eye’ then followed by the nose so that it can breathe and then inside the mouth, the ears, the eyes, head, neck, body, tail and finally the limbs.

Once the lions were brought to life, they then danced around the new Lukfook Jewellery shop before eating and scattering lettuce at the entrance to “spread” out the good luck and also to symbolize a “fresh start” for the new year…

The ceremony then ended with the cutting of the ribbon and toasting by the VIPs…..
