After traveling considerably around the world, I daresay Japanese food is one of my favourite cuisine…
Japanese food is not only about the taste, but an art where food presentation is considered just as equally important, so whenever you dine at a Japanese restaurant, you will be sure to see pretty or dainty looking food that not just pleases the taste buds but which is also a pleasure to see or take pictures of…. And best of all Japanese food is among the most healthiest in the world and Japanese people too have the highest life expectancy in the world because of their food and lifestyle…
I had the opportunity to finally dine at GEN, the Japanese Restaurant over at the swanky Sunway Putra Hotel and try out their popular Buffet Dinner, which is available on weekend evenings only – namely, Fridays and Saturdays
Over here, there is a choice of dining at the Sushi and Sashimi Counter, or Main Dining Area or if you like a private room for the family or small business group, you might also consider one of the five private dining (tatami) rooms with seating capacities of up to 12 people.
I was ushered to a table near the window which I could see the sparkling night lights of KL but because the seat was directly under an air con, and my husband could not stand the cold so we shifted to a place where there was no direct airconditioning…
There are platters of hot dishes that include rice, noodles, chicken, fish and vegetables in a little ‘island’ in the middle of the restaurant… I heard these menu are changed on a rotating menu basis and there is always something to catch your fancy. I saw grilled salmon, gyoza and so many other dishes…
Of course, I can never say no to the chawan mushi which is just so smooth, silky and tasty with crabstick, chicken and mushroom inside the egg custard.
Then there was the tempura station where you can find tempura prawns, crabsticks along with other tempura vegetables such as eggplants, brinjals and carrots.
Over at the sashimi and sushi side there are plenty of salads, sushi, rolls to choose from as well as edamame… and some oysters and salmon sashimi on a bed of ice…. The food is all very fresh and I just loved the flavours …
There is also a live station where you can select your noodles from ramen, soba, udon and your vegetables and mushrooms and your sauces to make your personal small claypot noodles…I chose some ramen with miso sauce and plenty of mushrooms and it was just perfect on my palate……
Then there is dessert which was in a refrigerator….. with strawberry jelly and mango pudding, some assortments of cakes and freshly-cut fruits…..
Do not miss out on the green tea ice cream, or if you are not a fan, there is sweet corn, coffee and vanilla to choose from as well….My daughter and I opted for the green tea one of course….
Overall it was a great dinner, even my fussy husband enjoyed…. I would definitely be back for more….
They are also having Christmas Eve and New Year Eve buffet dinner, so if you are interested, it is just at RM108 nett which is really worth every penny for the gorgeous and serene ambience and the delectable Japanese food….
