PROSPER IN SPRING AT 1UTAMA SHOPPING CENTRE, SELANGOR

Time really flies.. Christmas and New Year celebrations are barely over and we are already hurtling towards the next celebrations.. Chinese Lunar New Year. Yeah, Chinese New Year is one of the main celebrations here in Malaysia and with it being just about 3 weeks away, the malls are all in Chinese New Year mode already.. beginning with 1Utama…

1Utama always impress me with their decorations… and so I was delighted to have been invited to witness the launch of their Chinese New Year ‘Prosper in Spring’ celebrations which was nothing short of breathtaking and spectacular…

The mall is of course decked out in red and gold, representing luck and prosperity, with gorgeous red lanterns with matching gold decorations all over…. And at the Oval concourse of 1Utama, you can find an amazing stage/ structure which has been modelled after the Main Auditorium in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China… This official assembly hall is a well known cultural and historical venue there in China… and the one here at 1Utama is also a sight to behold with wide long steps leading up to the giant gold 1Utama logo and tall red flags adding to the regal feel…Naturally you will also find pots of beautiful chrysanthemums and also peony flowers adding more beauty to the ambience…

We were impressed with the Acrobatic Lion Dance Performance by a gold lion and a green lion… from the Khuan Loke Traditional Lion Dance troupe…

Then we were treated to an amazing table tennis demo by none other then Malaysia’s National Players Mohd Shakirin Ibrahim and Leong Chee Feng…

This was followed by a couple of CNY songs performed by some of the artistes from the 98.8 radio station…

…and ended with a ‘Lou Hei….’ And a scrumptious lunch…

There are interesting pop up stalls around the Oval Concourse where you can find traditional wear, cookies, tea, and so on…. , not forgetting the more than 700 stores all around the huge 1Utama you can head over to with friends and loved ones to shop to your heart’s content or purchase gifts for family and relatives… If you are opting to have your reunion dinner outside, there is definitely a lot to choose from as well with the variety of restaurants offering special makan sets and menus for the entire family..

Of course, you absolutely must bring your family members or friends over to watch one of the amazing lion dance performance… did you know 1Utama has invited 3 of the best lion dance troupes over to perform throughout the month… be sure to check out the Kun Seng Kheng Acrobatic Lion Dance, Khuan Loke Traditional Lion Dance and Kwong Ngai Acrobatic Lion Dance, and decide which one is the best.. I have seen all three and I still cannot decide…

You should also try to catch the Malaysia Table Tennis Match on January 7^th at 2pm, played by current and former national players, Mohd Shakirin Ibrahim, Leong Chee Feng and Chai Kian Beng and a whole lot of other exciting cultural performance….
