Stepping into Avenue K’S Ground Floor Atrium was like stepping back into my childhood days…back then I would celebrate CNY by following my mom and her friend to Taiping where we would have visit some friends and distant relatives there.. that was when I was a kid…
And that is what Avenue K is trying to evoke… with a quaint little village setting reminiscent of the times back in the 70’s or early 80’s…
Avenue K’s main entrance and atrium is decorated with replicas of old buildings complete with antique adornments and furniture that really bring you back to those heart warming and nostalgic moments back then.. you can see auspicious red coloured cloth hanging from the lattices, blossoming peonies, pretty cherry blossoms and other floral decorations around here…
Yours truly was over for the media launch and we got treated to some amazing performances… from the Shaolin Wushu Performance…
Then there was the Chinese Traditional Mask Changing Performance done by two lovely girls…. And it is just pretty amazing how fast they change their masks, in seconds…
This was followed by a Chinese Acrobatic Show, ok, this one is a special one from all those years ago, and the performer has been doing his tricks for more than 30 years… and no, he is not one of the acrobats that make you think he is boneless, but more of juggling, balancing and playing with the whip type of acrobat….
Our treat ended with a soulful Shanghai Jazz performance and some nice refreshments and treats at the Tokyo Pastry…
Do be sure to check out the myriad of interesting festive goodies traded there at the oriental looking shops, that so resemble shops in the good old days..
Avenue K has also planned some very fascinating sensational festivities and performances such as lion dances, 8 festival drums, Shaolin Wushu, Chinese Orchestra, Chinese Traditional Mask Changing Show, Chinese Acrobatic Show and the unforgettable Shanghai Jazz vocalists – Janet Lee and Yi Run who will be performing on weekends… Check out the time table below to know more….

I think Avenue K always decorates really well for seasons and holidays. It’s one of the attraction for my friends and I when we pick a mall to hang out with for sure – the decorations.

The Jalan Gong Xi Fa Cai amused me much. I’d love to drop by Avenue K some time during CNY. Not sure if it is possible but am keeping my fingers crossed.
