Sadly many people view Ramadan as a month to indulge themselves  in feasting… since not eating all day should be rewarded with outstanding dinners…. I have to admit I am one of them…

But it also got me thinking…  Ramadan is suppose to be the time we are suppose to wipe away our sins, change our life styles and get closer to Allah SWT, isn’t it so suppose to be that….?

And because with the change in eating routines and habits, we become oblivious to the fact that we are putting on weight. I often have my dinner at 5pm or 6 pm if I can help it.. but with Ramadan, I only get to eat about 7.30pm which can be pretty bad…. And the eating goes on till about 8pm or so….

And we do not have the energy to really exercise, and we definitely start eating plenty of unhealthy food… I often find drinks that are too sweet, too salty during the Ramadan month, probably because most fasting people do not taste the food they prepare and make assumptions and we suffer the consequences… huhuhu…..

But anyway, let’s be honest, Malaysian food has a lot of salt, sugar, oil, and fats…. And when you buy from the Bazaar Ramadan or go out and eat in restaurants or hotels, all those dishes tend to be laden with salt, sugar, oil and fat… All of which is not good for us, and can lead to high cholesterol and diabetes.

Did you know….. since we have been fasting during the day, Ramadan should be the perfect and easier time to ditch our bad habits for good….? The fasting month limits the food intake during the take, and that is a great form of control. So we should just make the right choice and try to break fast by eating clean food….

Who says it has to be boring? You just need to be creative just as you are with unhealthy items. And if you think you are too tired to cook or think up healthy meals to break your fast, just head over to

I love that the meal are packed nicely in boxes with calorie counts and nutritional information on it as well… Each Foodmatters meal consists of the right balance of nutrients for our body without the unhealthy oils, excess sodium and trans fat commonly found in many Malaysian dishes….

I had a selection of dishes delivered to my home… and it was just so convenient… One of it was the Ayam Percik, then there was Mediterranean Fish Parcels, Sambal Tempeh Wrap and some Greek Salad with Couscous….

Personally I have to say my favorite was the Meditteranean Fish Parcels as it was just so beautifully topped with lemon, sundried tomatoes and olives baked in a parcel and came with broccoli and cauliflower which I had to fight with my daughter over… It was so sumptuous and I wanted more….

My daughter loved her Ayam Percik that came served with brown rice… the bonesless and skinless chicken is sort of Cajun baked and comes with some fresh sautéed spinach. She loved it and finished the whole box up in minutes…

My husband and daughter enjoyed the Greek Salad with Couscous which was packed with fresh veggies and topped with a sprinkling of rich feta. It was a pretty attractive looking and colourful dish and I cannot believe it is just so nutritious as couscous is rich in protein and packed with thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, Vitamin B6, and folate and raw vegetables are high in vitamins…

My husband definitely enjoyed the Sambal Tempeh Wrap  that came with sambal, baked tempeh slices and crisp salad. Being a Javanese descendant, he loves his tempeh and it was just what he enjoyed and the sambal was just nice since it was not too spicy…

So there you have it, be sure to check out for healthy dishes to break your fast or have during the day –when you are not fasting…..
