The first time I heard of Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur, there were invisible question marks floating right above my head.. It definitely sounded interesting, but I did not know where it was until I was there recently for an event, and relied on Waze to guide me there…
So yes, now I can tell you all about it.. as I recently had a wonderful little retreat in conjunction for my birthday as well as some mother daughter bonding time…
Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur is located along the historical Jalan Kamunting, which is somewhere just behind the SME Bank as well as the Sheraton Imperial Hotel..
Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur is a part of the Autograph Collection of distinctive, heritage hotels, and comes with a fun and kind of edgy style vibe and character…
Yours truly and her not-so-little girl checked in on the eve of my birthday and we were given the Deluxe King room, out of one of 184 bespoke guest rooms and suites….
The whole hotel is just a fascinating, and somewhat mesmerizing blend of contemporary design and urban chic, somewhat reminiscent of the background, history and character of the neighbourhood.
I am not a born and bred KL girl, but my husband is, so he did mention that Jalan Kamunting was once an old urban district (originally for tin-mine workers back centuries ago) ..
Checking in was a breeze, and I was issued my room card keys with a brief explanation of where the restaurants and other facilities are located in the hotel….
For a great meal or two, you might be interested to check out The Snug, an all-day dining restaurant or Brasserie 25, the French-style restaurant that provide guests with a cosy and relaxing ambience to enjoy local and international cuisines for lunch, tea and dinner.
You cannot help but fall in love with the funky and classy hotel rooms which are spacious and modern with a contemporary design. I think, there is a huge black and white photograph of the old Jalan Kamunting back in those good ol’ days.
Every room is pretty much uniformed and comes with sofa bed, 50″ LCD TV as well as a complimentary mini bar with two mineral water, some canned drinks, a coffee machine, a little candy bar with Ol’ Skool prunes – you know the type they serve when you are forced to drink some bitter Chinese concoction at the Chinese Sinseh medical shop… and coconut candy…. Only the category of room will be bigger and more spacious.. and yeah… the WiFi connection is pretty good…
The bathroom and toilet is pretty spacious and even comes with a build in marble bench, a hand held shower or a large rain shower.. I do have a small grouse though, which is there is not enough place to hang our swim suit or wet towels… especially after a swim..
Talking about swimming… the rooftop saltwater infinity pool is breathtaking with amazing views of the city skyline, the KL Tower and the KL Forest Eco-Park (or previously known as Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve).
You have to love those lounge deck chairs.. and then there is a bar there I think, with beautiful plant walls you definitely do not want to miss out a selfie or picture at….
For those who love to work out, you will love the well equipped 24-hour gym located on the same level…
Psst.. I love that they are not stingy about their mineral water as you can get complimentary bottles at both the poolside as well as the gym…
I am pretty impressed by the sumptuous breakfast served at The Snug, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant. The restaurant is pretty laid back, and cosy with stripped-back walls, giving it an industrial edge.
The breakfast selections are quite awesome, as my daughter loved raiding the huge industrial refrigerator where sandwiches, salads, yogurts, bottled juices are kept… and yes, I admit it can be pretty fun and a little ‘naughty’ and we went overboard with our favorite smoked duck slices as well as smoked salmon slices..
They do have the egg station where you can choose your favorite egg selection, some congee, and some nasi lemak bungkus which is served with some great mouthwatering sambal, noodles, fried rice, and continental breakfast choices of sausages, baked beans, turkey slices etc…
The staff at the Hotel Stripes are all very polite, professional and ever ready to be of assistance…and I would say, exemplary, going to make sure that your stay is comfortable and up to your expectations…

Such a luxurious and comfortable stay at the Hotel Stripes. YTL estates have got to be one of the best managed throughout Malaysia.

Sometimes waze is reliable! I also use it especially when the cab doesn’t have it. I like the hotel’s infinity pool (and it is in saltwater?) plus the room looks relaxing for the night.
