The last time I visited Chin Swee Temple was about 3-4 years ago, and even then it was somewhat a rush visit and I miss out on many parts of the temple.. It wasn’t until Ansel Elgort , of Baby Driver fame, posted a picture of himself with the giant Buddha whilst in Malaysia that got me wondering where the place was, since it seems so familiar yet err… I cannot recall it being anywhere in Kuala Lumpur…

Then only did I recall the serene Chin Swee Temple, and the gorgeous eye catching nine-storey pagoda which I pass by every time when I find myself on the Sky Way up to Genting, and yes.. they have a 15 metre high statue of Buddha… and I promised myself to make an effort to visit it..

The opportunity came this recent weekend when I was over at Resorts World Genting to put a night up at the lovely new Hotel on the Park…

The magnificent Chin Swee temple is located 4,600 feet above sea level and definitely one of the most scenic site of Genting Highands, somewhere in between the Awana Skyway and the Sky Avenue Skyway, so my daughter and me was at the Sky Avenue Skyway early in the morning to catch the Skyway down to the Chin Swee Temple station.

We got down there and had to go down 9 escalators before we arrived at the temple…

The Chin Swee Temple is dedicated to the Chinese philosopher Chin Swee and took over two decades to build. Being there is such a blessing in some ways since you can enjoy magnificent views of the area… definitely insta worthy gorgeous..

Among some of the attractions one can find at the Chin Swee Caves Temple includes the newly-built observation square called the Sky Terrace.

Spanning across 35,000 square feet, the Sky Terrace was built for guests to take leisure walk among the ‘clouds in heaven’. A large statue of the late Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Lim Goh Tong, erected in honour of his dedication to the Chin Swee Temple, stands tall in the vicinity of the Sky Terrace.

It is always interesting to do a journey of cultural exploration and it is no difference here since we get to admire the huge 15 metre tall statue of Buddha serenely blessing all who passes him..then while following the little walk, we get to ‘travel’ from the 10 chambers of hell to heaven in the afterlife in accordance with ancient Chinese traditions and beliefs. This was kind of eye opening and well, a great reminder to all of us, Chinese, Muslim or Christian since we all believe in hell, not to sin…

According to Chinese belief, the soul of a dead person would be sent to the First Chamber of Hell and his past deeds would be screened by Chin-Kwong-Wang, the King of the First Chamber, who would decide if he should receive punishment. A good soul would be sent for rebirth in the Heavenly Realm and an evil soul would be sent to one of the remaining nine chambers of Hell, each empowered to impose various degrees of punishment.

Once we were done, we had to go up the 9 escalators to get back to the Chin Swee Temple Station to catch our SkyWay gondola back to the peak..

The Chin Swee Caves Temple is strategically located and easily accessible either by the Awana SkyWay or by road. You can park your car at the Awana SkyWay Car Park, where there are about 4,500 bays, or also take the SkyWay from Sky Avenue in Resorts World Genting for a scenic ride to the temple. Just get down at the Chin Swee station at no extra cost and take the escalators to the temple grounds, like I did..

…and while you are at it, keep an eye out for interesting moths and insects you might come across along the way…

Do keep your SkyWay tickets with you as you can use the same ticket to continue your journey or head back either to the peak or to the Awana Station. I began my trip from Sky Avenue, and I went back to Sky Avenue on the same ticket…

The Awana SkyWay operates seven days a week from 7:00am to midnight. For the standard gondola, tickets are priced at RM8 per person or 5GP for Genting Rewards Card members.
