Did you know the correct way to prepare tea is prepared, is basically a ritual. It starts with measuring out the loose tea, smelling the aroma of the tea, before pouring in hot boiling water and letting it steep for about 2 minutes before pouring it out into your cup..

Yup, I had my ‘lessons’ at the Dazzle Five Senses tea event, that was held in conjunction with 888 Tea and Coffee 75th Anniversary which was held at the Forum at Sri Hartamas..

It does take a little bit time for our palette to adjust to the wonderful subtle nuances of the different kinds of tea around, even when it is the same type but just happen to come from different countries…

When I mention different tea, you might be thinking of the assortment of plants that actually produce all these tea right…

Now I am going to shock you, as I was also surprised myself by the revelation, that…green tea, white tea, black tea, oolong tea, and all other seemingly rare teas are actually originates from the same one plant, the Camellia sinensis. The thing that makes the tea different and unique is the way each tea is grown and prepared.

Yup.. it is harvesting, climate, altitude, plant part and method of drying that actually categorize the tea… Isn’t it just amazing how such subtle changes can alter a single plant so dramatically and change the way our taste buds respond with such a wide array of differences.

So what about those herbal teas.. you might ask.. herbal “teas” like chamomile, mint, chrysanthemum, rooibos and the likes which are not from the Camellia sinensis plant, camellia sinensis, are actually not tea. They may be drunk in a similar manner to the way tea is consumed, but technically they are herbal tisanes..

So.. why drink tea.. well, tea is a beverage that can soothe you when you want to relax or wake you up when you need an extra push. Green tea is said to have the power to help keep your bones healthy especially for those who are elderly..

Experts believe that drinking tea can sometimes be better than drinking water since tea rehydrates you just as much as water and contains antioxidants.
