MELAKA TROPICAL FRUIT FARM, SG UDANG, MELAKA

The Melaka Tropical Fruit Farm in Sungai Udang is located in Sg Udang on 173 acres of land, about 20 minutes from Melaka town, but we took about an hour plus to get there… reason is because we mistakenly Waze Agro fruit farm and somehow ended up the other side of Melaka…huhuh

And because of that, the time allocated for us to visit the area was cut short and limited because of sunset… However, because of the special arrangement we had with the management there, we manage to have a quick private tour under the beautiful evening sky painted with the colours of evening… in shades of pink, orange etc…

We were brought around on the tram there and we manage to check out and try out the kelulut bees honey at one of the many hives peppered around the farm… kelulut bees are very small and they cannot sting, thus they are known as the stingless bees… the honey is delicious with a tinge of sourness in it…

From the kelulut bees, we headed to our second stop the quail farm, or is it a house.. a small hut housing quail ‘apartments’ …

From there, we passed by cinnamon trees, long jack trees and countless other plants and trees until we arrived at the animal enclosures..

It is here we can get up close with the ostriches, deers, ponies and also some Bali cow… you can pet them or feed them… it can be pretty fun…but you get deer and pony saliva over your hand and run the risk of having the ostrich eat your hand also… I almost got my hand eaten by a hungry and enthusiastic ostrich.. but no worries.. it is not painful and there are no bruises… lol..

This farm is definitely an interesting place to experience nature up close as I think they even offer rubber tapping experience, and you can learn a lot about fruits and herbs as well as all those interesting health benefiting exotic plants.

Besides that, you can also stay over at their chalets or hostel and take part in the various sports and recreation facilities from bicycling, jogging, rafting, fishing or for the more adventurous ones, flying fox…across the stream/ small river…

We also got to get up close and personal with the Melaka tree and check out the fruits that looked a lot like grapes and even tried Melaka juice… the bottled kind..

Our little excursion ended with some fried quails, quail eggs,  and tropical fruits – assam jawa, longan, pink jambu air, and the normal tropical fruits –  papaya, melons and starfruits…

I would recommend it for those who want something different as well as those seeking some respite from the hustle and bustle of city life as it can be so peaceful and serene here… as well as educational.
