Anyone who have been to a container hotel knows that container hotels are pretty simple, basic and well, you get the bare necessities and comfort staying here… I have stayed at a container hotel before in Surat Thani when I was there, and it was basic and comfortable. I have visited two other local container hotels and yes, it is also pretty much like glamping, basic yet comfortable… so yes, if you are staying at a container hotel, you should not expect too much…
During our recent trip to Muar with the Colours of Lives Travelogue Malaysia team, we were told that we were staying over at the PPT hotel there… so I resigned myself to expect a normal container hotel…
However when my car turned into the hotel compound, and the view of the PPT hotel came to sight, I was mesmerized.. it was just so striking and colourful..
Our editor in chief and her assistant had checked in earlier and had the room keys all readily assigned to us in one of those plastic handy zip-up see-through pouch that contains the room key card, an air-conditioner remote control, the tv remote control and the all-important WIFI password is stickered on the pouch…
The exterior of the container building was cutesy, hipster cool and the containers renamed, with positive words… While it is a norm for container hotels to have windows, and so did the PPT hotel… it is interesting to note and see balconies are cut into the walls probably to make the containers feel pretty cool. The reception is on the ground floor of the adjacent PPT Muar Hotel .. and there is even a gym, a steam room, a little garden and koi pond.. the landscaped surroundings is definitely very pleasing to behold..
…and for fans of Transformers, you can find Bumble bee and Optimus Prime at each side of the PPT Container Hotel as well as a street art kind of drawing on the adjacent building..
I actually fell in love with the benches and tables made from recycled oil drums as well..
I am also glad to note that to enter the lobby of the PPT Container Hotel, you are required to tap your room key card on the sensor at the main entrance, making the place very safe since only in house guests can access the hotel…
The lobby of the container hotel with the grand staircase that leads up to a view of a impressive and almost real blue sky and clouds making me feel like the time I was in Las Vegas and first stepped into the Venetian Hotel..
There is, I think a total of 41 rooms, 14 of which are designed with balcony, and yes, we cannot resist taking pictures at the balcony..
The interior of our Classic Superior room – RM125 nett for weekdays /RM136 nett for weekends – comes with a bathroom, and has a king bed, a tv, and a little dressing table, very much like the size of one of those Tune Hotel budget hotel rooms or a hotel room in Europe.. and you are only reminded you are in a container because of the walls.. and yes, this container room is pretty much both cosy and comfortable. Pssst… my cabin on the Star Cruise was probably smaller then this…
In the little en suite bathroom, I found basic toiletries amenities including toothbrushes and for your information, the bathroom is definitely bigger than my bathroom on the Star Cruise… hehehe .. but the only thing is that the door does not lock and it only slides close…
There is even a coffee and tea making facility is in a tray on the dressing table. For your info, you can get also hot and cold water from a number of dispensers located on the corridors outside the rooms.
I took a peek in another of my team mate’s room which was an Executive Suite -RM199 nett for weekdays and RM210 nett for weekends – and the room was definitely much more spacious… huhuhu….
The hotel look really amazing at night when litted up… and is super instagram worthy…
Hotel facilities include ample parking space, 24-hour security camera surveillance and reception, room key card system, gym and sauna and free high-speed wireless internet access.

Yay this hotel looks impressive! The concept looks cool and unique. Hope the AC functions well coz i think containers like this absorbs heat.
