Muar’s name is said to be derived from the word “Muara” in the Bahasa Malaysia language translates to estuary or the mouth of river…
Muar is a prosperous town in Northern Johor, known to be rich in history. It is said that the history of Muar began way much earlier than even the Sultanate of Malacca and a few historical legends evolving around Muar such as Hikayat Malim Deman (Malim Deman’s tale), Legenda Lembing Awang Pulang Ke Dayang and Legenda Puteri Gunung Ledang (Princess of Mount Ophir)…
One interesting little riverine adventure you can actually take in Muar would be the half an hour long Muar River Cruise that departs from the Tanjung Emas park, offering both locals and also curious tourists a little tour of Muar town along the river…
So yours truly here and her team mates from the Colours of Lives Travelogue Malaysia arrived at the Tanjung Emas park, escorted like VIPs by the Majlis Perbandaran Muar council people from the hotel…
We got on the boat and was told to put on our life vests, which is a must for all boats… so despite some grumbles, we put it on like good little kids.. heheheh
It was euphoric as the boat cruised towards Kampung Sabak Aur, allowing you to drink it the sights of the Clock Tower, Sultan Ibrahim Mosque, Sultan Abu Bakar Building, Pekan Rabu Muar, Marine Police Jetty, mangrove swamps, fishing boats and other interesting structures while appreciating the breeze playing with your hair and on your face…
Most of us wanted our ‘titanic’ moment at the bow of the boat.. though it can also be scenic and fun standing at the stern of the boat as well seeing the propeller churn out waves… and the scenery disappearing into the distance…
And before you know it, time has flown and we had already made a turn back to the jetty where we first boarded the boat…
It certainly is a relaxing and fun ride down the river on a boat, so we should just relax and let the mood take us.. it is not a cruise on a 5 star liner like the Dream Cruise or Star Cruise, so don’t expect too much on it and you will enjoy it..
Ticket prices are just RM12 for Malaysian adults; RM6 for children; RM15 for foreigners. The jetty is located within Tanjung Emas Park.
