MiL, The Boutique Residence, Penang

One of our stays in Penang was at the MiL, The Boutique Residence, which was pretty close to the Kapitan Keling Mosque smack dab in the very heart of Georgetown’s UNESCO World Heritage Site; and just a stone’s throw away from some of Penang’s most interesting sites…

At a first glance, you could almost miss the hotel since it is located in some old shop houses and sandwiched between cafes.. From the outside, the hotel does not look that fancy, but once you step inside the hotel, it is an entirely different feeling… It is just gorgeous..

One thing I really have to say is this hotel is definitely perfect and a dream come true for those who enjoy sightseeing since it is just so conveniently close to everything in the heritage part of Penang… everything along Armenian Street, Beach Street, etc…

…we walked to the Hock Teik Cheng Sin Temple and Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi.

We got to enjoy the Teo Chew Opera which happened to be on when we were staying there…

…we also walked to China House cafe… and I realise Awesome Canteen or Sekeping Victoria, Phantamania and all are also pretty close by…

You can definitely take many pics of the famous street arts by strolling in the neighbouring lanes…

And, for the first time, despite me being a Penangite, I manage to head to the Clan Jetty and watch sun rise, though there wasn’t really a sun rise since it was way to cloudy…..

The MiL Boutique Residence is small, with 12 super comfy, spacious and well-appointed rooms with a total capacity of 83 persons, including 6 duplex suites with occupancy of 6 to 8 persons… and the rooms are nothing short of amazing.. it sure exceeded my expectations… being so spacious, and cosy… and it actually has an indoor pool too… one you can actually swim..

Breakfast is served complimentary at the Boru Cafe next door where you can choose between an American Breakfast, Toast with Half Boiled Eggs and French Toasts with juice of your choice…

MiL,does not stand for Mother-in-Law which was what I was thinking of when I first heard about the hotel…. lol.. rather… when translated to ‘Mi-er’ in Chinese, is based on the name of an intellectual giant in Norse mythology named ‘Mimir’. Dubbed as the guardian of the Fountain of Wisdom, it aligns with MiL International Group’s heart for knowledge and the application of wisdom to create an extraordinary life.

The rooms comes with good complimentary wireless Internet, a super comfy and cosy king-size bed… You can also find a small refrigerator, kettle, bedroom slippers and generous working desk, lamps and a LCD TV…

  1. Sunrise at the jetty is also something that I have been longing to catch. Despite having been to Penang many times, that just slips by me every single time. Perhaps I will have better luck if I were to put up at MIL.
