Yours truly was thrilled when Projek Nasi Lemak Box invited us over to try their viral Nasi Lemak… The Influenzas team and I were in Penang, and after a tiring afternoon of traveling and climbing stairs just to play slides, we were hungry.. and in need of some good food. We headed over to Esplanade, after a quick shower and change, and found the little container eatery at a lovely location  right beside the historical Fort Cornwallis. And it is here too, where we go to indulging our senses in the briny sea breeze while our tastebuds were indulged in what lay before us… yummy Nasi Lemak…

We were there in the evening and we sure loved what we saw… twinkling fairy lights hung at the ceiling of the shade, a pretty neat black painted container that served as the kitchen dishing out yummy food.. Definitely an insta-worthy place…

We ordered 3 Lobster Nasi Lemak – RM79.00 , 3 Giant Squid Nasi Lemak – RM16.90 and 2 Fried Chicken Nasi Lemak- RM10.90

The Nasi Lemak comes served on a rattan tray, on a banana leaf, with anchovies, pickled cucumber, sambal belacan, peanuts, egg and sambal, and of course, your choice of menu….

The Fried Chicken Nasi Lemak came with a generous piece of chicken, and it was pretty well marinated and fried. It tasted great with the nasi lemak.. which was however not so lemak…

The Giant Squid Nasi Lemak came with a huge cuttlefish served on a different plate… and they will bring you scissors too so you can cut the cuttlefish up however you want..

The Lobster Nasi Lemak  comes served with an average sized wild lobster and it is baked with cheese before being served with fragrant blue colored rice cooked with coconut milk and dyed with the butterfly pea flower. ..

The drinks are pretty cool too… I ordered a coconut shake- RM6.50 for myself which was just heavenly refreshing, while my companions ordered green tea – RM6.00, lime and rose syrup – RM3.50 and lemon grass – RM3.50….

Overall, I’d say the food is pretty good and comes with a lovely presentation… and the drinks irresistible.. Personally, I love the ambiance of the place which is just perfectly cosy and gorgeous… however, I have to agree the prices are a bit high, but well, it probably is worth it for a personal treat or two or to impress someone you have your heart set on or treating your bestie for a meal..

  1. I love how the nasi lemak is presented and the add ons are not what we are accustomed to. Definitely not the RM1 nasi lemak we eat daily but well worth the price!
