So yours truly was one of the lucky people over in Melaka for the Grand Launch of “Encore Melaka,” an indoor theme production directed by Chinese director Wang Chaoge – who directed the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Opening Ceremony-, which premiered at Impression City at Kota Syahbandar in Melaka on Saturday night…

From the moment we step foot at the intriguing Impression Melaka building, I was mesmerized..

The building facade was made with arcs of thousands of LED lights and porcelain-tiles…the interior set-up of the theatre which sat 2000 people was even more astonishing because the audience platform was created in such a way that can immerse their guests in a performance that will engage all your senses and rotate accordingly 360 degrees!!!

The opening was held in conjunction with UNESCO’s 10th Melaka World Heritage City Celebration…

About 4000 excited guests including yours truly here was mesmerized by the combination of song, dance and story-telling featured in the show from 600 years history of Malacca, which dates back to the ancient Malacca Sultanate up to modern day Melaka….

Honourable guests included YB Tuan Mohamaddin bin Ketapi, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture; YAB Tuan Adly Zahari, Chief Minister of Melaka; Dato Indera Syad Norulzaman bin Syed Kamarulzaman, the Chairman of Yong Tai Berhad and A few other notable people..

Guests were treated to a magnificent retelling of six stories inspired by Melaka’s harmonious and multi ethnic identity and marveled at the arrival of Chinese navigator Zheng He’s fleet to Melaka….

The Baba Nyonya dance and wedding was definitely a feast to the senses as well..

…and how can we not shed a tear or two at the tale of 6 mothers…

…and marvel at the alluring water dance scene….

The audience was also surprised when the performers went around passing trasitional coconut candies to the audience after the lantern dance…

Encore Melaka is definitely one of the largest theater in Southeast Asia… More than 200 performers, the majority of whom recruited locally and intensively trained participated in the show…

“Encore Melaka” would make every tourist coming to Malacca to be proud of the city and join their hands in building friendship and love, Wang said after the performance…
