I was in Melaka recently with my besties and well, we decided to stay at The Settlement Hotel… Since this is not the first time I am there, I know how convenient The Settlement Hotel is… The hotel is close to the main sights but yet comfortably away from the hustle and bustle of the city and crowd… and ideal to unwind and spend some quality time with the people you care about… whether your besties or well, your family…
The Settlement Hotel building was once a 4 storey building, I think belonging to the government.. but it is now beautifully and painstakingly restored and refurbished into a gorgeous and award winning 4-star boutique hotel….
Some of my besties thought that The Settlement Hotel is posh and a little bit out of their price range when I told them we were gonna stay there for the weekend… but when they found about about the price, they were surprised and said it was very affordable..
So we took the shuttle van (available for an additional fee) from KL Sentral to Melaka…
As soon as we arrived at the hotel, we were welcomed by the beautiful white washed building, the beautifully manicured garden with a lovely fountain and the white rattan swing on the front porch…
The Settlement Hotel still maintains its 1960s original staircase which are all tiled… carefully preserved, as Mr Billy (the owner proudly tells us while we were looking at it…)
Then there are those antique old hand painted tiles which had been dismantled from an old mosque in Palembang and placed at the hotel lobby area, outside the Cool Room (the 24 hours hotel’s reception)….
And who can miss out the magnificent antique Sultan Bed, also from Palembang, Sumatera, the tiny bit of Palembang that made up the Settlement Hotel… since, well, if you know your history, Melaka was founded by a Palembang prince, Parameswara who fled to Melaka in the early 1400s, sat under a Melaka tree…
There are beautiful original works of Picasso and Matisse in frames around the Cool room as well as some beautiful mixture of furnitures there making the reception cosy and welcoming, unlike other normal hotel’s more busy and stark reception/lobby…
As I was treated to local Malay cakes and some yummy Arissto Coffee for afternoon tea in the Living Room that came with influences and traces of Nyonya Heritage
The Settlement Hotel rooms are located on the upper three floors, with about 15 rooms on each floor… The rooms are beautifully appointed with the standard hotel facilities and amenities such as tea/coffee facilities, a bar fridge and two complimentary mineral water bottles, a writing desk and flat screen TV and an ensuite bathroom and a bathtub…
The Settlement Suite is magnificent and perfect for families, group of friends or VIP it is connected to another Deluxe Room right next door…
The 5 villas – Junior Villa and Luxury Villa – are styled like traditional Malay houses and are situated at the rear end of the property.
On the other hand, the Luxury Villa comes with a king-sized four-poster bed and instead of a bathtub, it has a built in stone tub that you can fill with water… you can also request for a mandi bunga (floral bath) experience…
The long table is one of the pride of The Settlement Hotel, it is a 27 foot wooden table that was carved from a single tree trunk… which is supposedly the longest table in Malaysia made from a single tree trunk…
I began the next morning after a quick brekkie at the garden where the long table was with my besties with a dip in the dipping pool and a couple of floats from none other then Float Sewa… yup.. a blissful morning relaxing on a float…in the water with the people you care about, frolicking around is just the bestest thing in the whole wide world…
The pool is called a dipping pool as it is not big enough for swimming but big enough to dip yourself in the water, laze around to unwind with some peace and serenity….
The Settlement Hotel is opened for private functions and parties such as weddings, birthdays or any kind of gathering….
You can rent the Rooftop Garden that is just perfect for karaoke or part, the ballroom, another space just right next door which we used for our musang king party while we were there…
…or alternatively you can rent the whole hotel and premise for you and your guests for a very reasonable price!!!!
