Melaka is one of my favorite cities to head to as it is steep in history… but when you have visited all the historical sites countless times, where else can we go?
So since this is already my upteenth time / and 5th time to beautiful Historical Melaka this year alone, and I did not really want to see Porta de Santiago or St Paul’s Hill or the Dutch Square or the Menara Taming Sari again so soon… my friends and I headed to….
Mini Malaysia and ASEAN Cultural Park
Located in Ayer Keroh, not too far from the tol plaza, the Mini Malaysia & ASEAN Cultural Park is a picturesque park that has traditional architecture of homes unique to each of Malaysia’s 13 states…
Inside these pretty wooden traditional houses, you can actually also find displays pertaining to the relevant state together with cultural activities such as traditional games, local traditional activities demonstration, costume rental, cooking demo, batik painting and more. Do take note though, that some of these activities may have extra charges…
On the other hand you can also opt for lunch at the Rumah Sarawak and be treated to a simple but delicious meal there…
Of course, the one thing you should not miss out on are the cultural shows are held daily at the multi purpose amphitheatre… you also get to join in and dance along and take pictures with the dancers…
On the other hand, the ASEAN part of the park is currently being refurbished…
Jonkers Street
Jonker Street is considered Melaka’s Chinatown.. it was once renowned for its antique shops…
However, nowadays you can find plenty of clothing, knick knack outlets as well as cafes and hipster cafes peppering the street….
However, if you are in Melaka for the weekend, Jonker Street comes alive with its night market on Fridays and Saturdays… selling everything from tasty treats to cheap keepsakes and is naturally super crowded….
It would then be advisable for you to take a taxi or grab to Jonker Street during weekend evenings….
Donald and Lilly Nyonya Restaurant
Donald and Lilly restaurant is well known amongst the locals and tourists for its delicious authentic Nyonya food… It began as a road side stall and quickly gained popularity..
The price here is reasonable and the service is pretty good… and it has been recognised as one of the 50 world best street food at World Food Congress 2017 and has also been graced by the late Anthony Bourdain during his trip to Melaka…
The food served here is just so super tasty and I cannot fet enough of the flavours!!!

Melaka River Cruise
It has been said that taking a river cruise along the Melaka river is like seeing Melaka from the back door.. and well, the Melaka river is also where the town began and it has played a key role in Melaka’s history….
The Melaka River has been treated and given a major facelift so that the rivers do not smell and tourists, both foreign and local can enjoy a leisure cruise and enjoy the sights of both new and historical buildings and bridges along the river….
You will also beautiful and colourful murals painted on buildings along the river depicting different aspects of Malacca’s rich history and culture…
We got on the cruise via the Taman Rempah Jetty, where a small spice garden is located,…
From here the cruise travels downstream as far as Muara jetty where the boat turns around and takes you back to the starting point. The round trip takes 45 minutes and covers 9 km….
Mango Float Royale
There is the Klebang Coconut Shake you should not miss when you are in Melaka… and now there is also the Mango Float Royale which you also should not miss, especially if you like mangoes…
You can find the Mango Float Royal at Sungai Putat in Batu Berendam…
The mango float consists of mango juice which had been blended with a little bit of mango cordial… with a generous scoop of Wall’s vanilla ice cream is added on top followed by real mango cubes!!!!
A cup is priced at only RM5 and believe me when I say it is almost orgasmic….
Naturally, you should not miss out on the sumptuous food they serve there too from the mee rebus ayam goreng to the prawn noodles to their meatballs and keropok lekor / deep fried fish fingers smothered in cheese….and a whole load more of yummy food..
