So my buddies and I planned our trip to Bangkok.. it was going to be the Bangkok trip I was going to indulge myself in all things Bangkok.. We booked our flight tickets and hostels and had another hotel thrown in as a last measure and thought of indulging in the finer side of Bangkok and we were all set to go.. when oops… there was a gap in our hostel and hotel stay…
A friend of the Tourism Authority Thailand in Malaysia then suggested and told us we had to go to the Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Siam.. and so I quickly agreed and the reservations were quickly made…
So on the 5th day in Bangkok, we checked the out from our little hostel in Silom and took a grab car to the Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Siam…
The hotel was definitely a dream come true for shopaholics, since it was just smacked right in the heart of Siam area… meaning… it was just barely a few mins walk from the three main Siam Shopping centres, the huge MBK Centre and only a 3 mins walk from National Stadium BTS Skytrain Station….
Seriously.. I swear it was the best location of all my hostel/hotels I have ever stayed in Bangkok..
We had two rooms… so I got their superior room with a king sized bed on quite a spacious room… and well…
My other two travel buddies got their own deluxe room with twin beds…and the views on the other
The rooms are beautifully appointed in a modern, clean and in blue tones (one of my favorite colours)…. and the floor to ceiling windows opened up to the view of the Bangkok National Stadium and beyond…
My bed was definitely cosy and comfy and came with 4 pillows, 2 which are labelled firm and 2 more soft… I had a perfect time building a little nest… to sink in and sleep…
The bathroom was clean and spacious with amenities though slightly confusing with the door which you can use to close the whole toilet or just the bathroom…
Love the generous universal power points which are available at the writing desk as well as by the bed… something important for today’s travellers since I think we all want to be able to charge and use our phones while lazing around on the bed… And talking about using phones… the Wifi in Bangkok here are timed to automatically turn itself off in 6 hours or so since when I leave the TV on and when I return to the room it is off.. and when I sleep and wake up.. the TV is off….. hehe…
The reception and lobby area is small but neat, welcoming and stylish…
On the 7th floor, you can find the Great Room , a conference room and a self-service laundry and ironing room…
The Great Room is where guests head over for their buffet breakfast every morning…. After breakfast hours, The Great Room will not serve anymore meals and is more of a lounge for resting and hanging out with your friends or family…
The hotel provides a simple but nutritious breakfast… though it is not Halal…. I just go for the non- meat dishes…and fruits, cereals and yogurt…
However, no worries as you can easily order or head over to McDonalds (non-halal) which is located at the ground floor or the 7-11 which is just 3 mins away too… or like I said.. to the famous malls of Siam area where you can find all kinds of treats …
There is a lovely roof top garden on the top floor of the hotel with pretty gorgeous views of Bangkok or rather Siam district/area…
..as well as a pretty cool gymnasium for us to catch up on our exercises…
And oh.. I forgot.. if you are staying here, and if you love tropical gardens or old architecture like I do) do visit Jim Thompson’s house (its so super gorgeous) which is barely 4 – 5 minutes walk away in a little street before you reach the BTS… there is also a massage place with reasonable rates and nice massage… hehehe…
Overall we had an amazing stay here… I truly love the location and it’s good value for money…
For your info, you can find Holiday Inn Express all over the world, including here in Malaysia along Raja Chulan….
In Bangkok alone, there are two other Bangkok Holiday Inn Express , which is the Bangkok Sathorn and Bangkok Sukhumvit 11…
Although Holiday Inn Express concept is no-frills and self-catering with basic facilities and services at affordable price, the design and comfort level exceeded my expectation!
