After a nice stroll around and along Petaling Street or better known as Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown, or if you happen to be around the area and feeling hungry or peckish you would surely like to know where you might be able to go to..
Here are four of my favorite places…
Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock
We were at Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock near Petaling Street, or in KL , where the kopi tiam (coffee shop) was just so full of character.. a marriage between old and new…
Stepping into a beautiful air conditioned kopitiam with what seemed like peeling tired – looking walls on the right… as well as old black and white antique photographs, as well as paintings of Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock clothed in red decorating the walls on the left was definitely priceless.. and it was not quite my first time there…
I have been there a few times but it never fails to fascinate me any less..
Ali, Muthu & Ah Hock’s menu features traditional Malaysian favourites such as the nasi lemak ayam, mee goreng, Hainanese chicken rice and chee cheong fun….
Their best sellers would be the Nasi Lemak Ayam of course… of which was evident when my friends quickly ordered it.. as well as the Mee Mamak Goreng..
I decided on the Nyonya Laksa for a change and can’t say it’s the best I had but well, it was surely good enough…

Urban Artisan
Urban Artisan is located right on Petaling Street, except it is across the road, fron the Petaling Street market.. and it is an interesting soft-serve ice cream place offeri g a selection of flavours that change every week!!!
This week’s six choices comprise French Valrhona Cocoa, Oceanic Sea Salt, Taro, De Mango Mango and not sure about the other two….
You can choose to enjoy these lovely soft serves individually flavoured for RM11.90 or dual-flavoured for RM12.90, in a cone or paper tub…
I ordered the dual-flavoured soft serve in French Valrhona Cocoa and De Mando Mango and it was definitely delish not to also mention super instagrammable…

Merchants Lane
Having heard so much about this place.. I was thrilled to be checking it out finally with the awesome people of Gaya Travel…
This restaurant is also another super interesting rearaurant which is slightly hidden away.. Look for the ATC college on Petaling Street (across the road from the Urban Artisan soft serve ice cream place), and Merchant’s Lane entrance is right next to ATC college, sharing the same facade as a stationary shop call Kiat Loong Stationery Supplier…
Merchants Lane is on the first floor of an old heritage building.. which is also actually a former brothel (yeah.. you heard me right.. sin city)… You won’t miss Merchant’s Lane signature teal entrance. Just follow the red staircase to the cafe above…
The cafe is also somewhat quirky and interesting with its own old world charm… and you will also see how Merchant’s Lane is popular with the hipster crowd…
With plenty of natural light just ideal for photographs, nice and friendly staff, and a super quirky menu, you will definitely be charmed and find the menu super interesting…
I had some Pipits Nest, a plate of deep fried brinjal fries, onion rings and chicken tenders, beautifully battered, deep fried, and served with little tubs of cheesy sauce and mayonnaise for dipping..
The I ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese – which was rich with beef and the very flavourful tomato sauce..
And who can resist something called Better Than Sex – It is actually some pandan roti jala served with gula Melaka and toasted bread ice cream that is practically and seriously so much better than sex.. (unless you really have a thoughtful and great lover.. hahaha)

Starbucks
After strolling around Petaling Street, my friends and I had our coffee or rather caffeine cravings.. Sonwe headed to the Starbucks just at the side of Plaza Kotaraya…
There is indoor and outdoor seatings for customers but I think we all prefer to sit inside away from the humidity while indulging in some curry pastries, sandwiches and our favourite latte / frappe….
The staff there were super friendly and we had a great time there…
