Most Malaysians know that Melaka is a dream come true for those who love to eat…
Rich with multicultural heritage buildings, ancient landmarks and colonial structures, Malacca is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage city….
Melaka can be hot and humid as other parts of Malaysia too, so sunglasses, caps and light clothing are your best attire for the day…
With deep roots in history, the food here in Melaka are influenced by Peranakans, Chinese, Indian, Portuguese, Chetti, Malay and with the current trends, a lot of fusion dishes as well… and you can find good food in almost every corner of Melaka…
Recently yours truly embarked on little food trail in Melaka with some close friends and other influencers and writers.. so well here are some of the stalls we covered and visited during my recent Travelogue Malaysia Melaka food trail…
1. Just Berry Dessert House in Taman Kota Laksamana serves up some pretty yummy durian cendol, bingsu, snacks, desserts and drinks…
You have to love the presentation of the various dessert they have, and with that being said, it is no wonder Just Berry Dessert House is among the best dessert cafes in Melaka.
My personal favorite would be the Crown Musand King (bitter)… priced at RM48, it seem slightly pricey but I swear it is soooo worth it… The dessert is made from real durian pulp (usually D24), creamy durian paste and durian flavored ice cream. If you are a durian lover, like me, this is not to be missed… it is truly orgasmic… and so much better then sex… oppps….
Naturally, you have to try the other desserts too, like the Watermelon (RM25) and Wintermelon (RM26) Bingsu, Dragonfruit Milk Dessert (RM18) and even the Dottey Summer Pink Melon drink (RM13)
Address: 89, Jalan KL 3/9, Taman Kota Laksamana, 75200 Melaka
2. Mango lovers have to head over to Sungai Putat in Batu Berendam to try the Mango Float Royale Melaka there…so be sure to add it to your list of places to try while visiting Melaka…
The mango float is made of mango juice which had been mixed with a teeny bit of mango cordial to add the sweetness…. A generous scoop of vanilla ice cream is added on top followed by real mango cubes….
A cup of this yummilicious mango float is priced at RM6….
The Mango Float Royale Melaka also has a few other food stalls serving up yummy food like Laksa Sarang, deep Fried Baby Crab, Mushroom Cheese, Oden Royairu,Kuih Keria, Ayam Penyet, Mee Bandung, Denderam (baby Keria) etc .. .
I personally cannot resist the meatballs that comes served with mashed potatoes, bread and sauce…
Address: Lot 950, KM 8, Kampung Sungai Putat, Batu Berendam, 75350 Melaka
3. Cendol Kampung Hulu serves bingsu type cendol with the ice made with coconut milk and shaved just the Korean bingsu way and you get thicker and more satisfying Cendol with the topping of your choice …
This unique cendol operation can be found at the Straits Werks & Cafe, a barber shop-cum-restaurant establishment along the Melaka River near the market bridge….
Cendol Kampung Hulu also uses coconut ice cream…. And besides the usual toppings you get in a cendol, they also offer a variety of fruity add ons such as mango, longan, fruit cocktail and even durian…
On top of it.. Cendol Kampung Hulu serves up some really yummy food such as the Spaghetti Carbonara, Spicy Squid Rice and Ramen Asam Pedas…
Address: The Straits Werks & Cafe
No. 32, Jalan Kampung Hulu, Melaka
4. Restoran Cerana is a beautiful restautant that serves delicious and freshly prepared seafood in a beautiful and warm ambience…
It looks like some classy 2 story restaurant that also has prayer rooms and toilets which are pretty clean and well kept…
I just love their steamed fish in soya sauce, vegetables and spiced tempura squid…
Address: Medan Ikan Bakar Dan Asam Pedas Sungai Punggur , Kampung Alai, 75460 Telok Mas, Melaka
5. It has always been said that for the Malays, a trip to Melaka is never complete without a nice bowl of Asam Pedas… spicy, soury and savoury, this dish is definitely something to savour and enjoy in Melaka…
…especially at Ujang Asam Pedas Claypot which serves fresh and yummy asam pedas in a claypot with the seafood of your choice….
…and prepare to be mesmerized at their skills when preparing their roti canai “terbang”… it is definitely a sight to behold…. .
Address : No 6 & 7, Medan Selera Pasar Borong, Batu Berendam, 75350 Melaka
6. Curry has always managed to captivate most Asian senses… since they are just so addictive and go well with plain white rice, your favorite bread, roti canai or thosai or idli….
It is said, however, a fish head enhances the taste of the curry to have a thicker texture and consistency and well one of the best fish head curry in Melaka can be found at MITC hotel ‘s Asahan coffee house… The hotel serves a dreamy set of Kari Kepala Ikan…. it was viral for a couple of months…. and its easy to see why..
The restaurant also serves up some mean cucur and yummy banana split…
