Sometimes the best experience are the super back to basics experience…
I for one cannot forget a time when I was at the Excalibur Hotel in Las Vegas watching a mock tournament and enjoying my dinner the super basic way… using my hands…though admittedly it was a bit confusing trying to drink your soup minus the spoon..
When one of my close friends sent me an invite on which was stated “Pakai Tangan Jer” I was of course, half amused and definitely looking forward to it…
We were there at the Ombak Kitchen restaurant branch in Lucky Garden, Bangsar… and it was cosy modern contemporary styled with bright lightings…
I understand there is another Ombak Kitchen in Bukit Jelutong but since I am rarely in Shah Alam, I did not get a chance to visit that restaurant before…
Anyway for those of you who have never stepped foot in any Ombak Kitchen, you really ought to…
The restaurant serves ocean-fresh Cajun seafood dishes which are simply healthy and lips smacking delicious…
The seafood comes with 5 speciality sauces – Ombak Hot Cajun Sauce, Cheezy Zesty Lemon Sauce, Spicy Chocolate Sauce, Creamy Tom Yam Sauce, and Buttermilk Sauce which you can select to go with your seafood, and on top of that you can also request your spicy level… whether you want it Pedas Biasa, Pedas Pedas or Boom Super Pedas l…
We had the Ombak Hot Cajun Sauce Pedas Biasa which I really adore, though I would have enjoyed it even more spicier…
A combo comprising fresh XL crabs (imported from Indonesia), extra large prawns, squid, scallops and hamaguri clams as well as vegetables such as broccoli, corn and potatoes with bowls of rice costing RM349 feeds a family of four people… or if you come in a pair, there is also a smaller combo at RM199 for 2…
I love the fact that they use butter for their sauces rather then oil and the seafood are oil boiled (so healthy) before being combined with the sauce of your choice and served to your table in a plastic bag brought in with a metal pail…
The seafood is then poured out on the table, which has been covered by a good quality food grade “waxed” paper…
The rice served with your seafood is Japanese rice and the combination is just lovely..
The menu is also extensive enough to satisfy and please any seafood foodie with crustacean delights such as Irish Premium Live Oysters, Alaskan King Crab, XL Crabs, Lobsters and Crawfish Baby Lobster too..
There are no rules to dining, and you are kinda expected to just tuck into the juicy and yummy “shell out” like style dinner armed an apron, a hammer or well a crab cracker and your bare hands….
We also had some fried sotong with salted egg (RM11.90) and fried sweet potato (RM11.90)
Overall it was a great dinner party with my friends and new friends..
