Anyone who knows me knows I love traveling.. And in my opinion, there is nothing better then experiencing a city, a town or a country the local way…. Melaka is famous for being a Peranakan city and since I am from Penang, I have been pretty exposed to Peranakan living pretty much, and I have to say I find it charming…
So recently for the school holiday break and for a mini mother daughter bonding session, my daughter and I headed to Melaka for a short vacation…
My hotel for this trip was at the Estadia Hotel, a sister hotel of Hatten Hotel..
Estadia Hotel is unique as it is a boutique style hotel where guests can really experience Nyonya food and Baba Nyonya heritage…
What made it my choice was for the fact it was also very conveniently located in the heart of Melaka city centre, and walking distance to malls and tourist attractions….
Estadia Hotel has about 196 rooms and suites. The air-conditioned carpeted rooms and the rest of the hotel are brightly painted and comes with patterned wallpaper, lattice work, batik and/or framed images of Peranakan ceramics, clothing, accessories…
The hotel reception, which is on the 3rd floor however was simplicity in stark white, as well as the hotel room corridors are a contrast to the rest of the hotel…
Checking in was fast and pleasant, as the receptionist was a professional and we were given the key cards to our room at Level 5 in barely 3 minutes..
My daughter and I were given the 22 sq meters Estadia Deluxe room, and though the room was slightly smaller then I expected, it was colourful, inviting and more importantly comfortable…
The twin beds came with comfortable. And plush bedding and the feather pillows ensured a good night’s rest…
We certainly enjoyed their complimentary high speed WiFi and the buffet breakfast at Makan Nyonya was pretty impressive and in my opinion, yummy…
You can find delicious noodles, nasi lemak, bread, fruits, cereal and pastries.. There is also an egg station to order your preffered style of egg..
Makan Nyonya actually serves some pretty good Nyonya food offerings via their a la carte menu… We particularly loved the Nyonya Fish Head Curry, Otak-otak, ayam pongteh, Sambal Bendi, Udang Sambal Petai and Nyonya Chap Chye (more in next blog)…
We also took the opportunity to explore historical Melaka by foot since Estadia Hotel is within walking distance to famous attractions in Melaka such as the Porto de Santiago, St Paul’s Church, Red Square (Christ Church Melaka), Menara Taming Sari as well as Jonker Street… You can also walk to Dataran Pahlawan and Mahkota Parade…
By the way, Estadia Hotel and Hatten Hotel offers hourly free bus shuttle to various stops around Melaka City as well such as Elements Mall, Jonker Street, Masjid Kampung Hulu and Christ Church… So you call also make use of this facility if you want to save on your transportation costs…
My daughter and I got to Melaka by taking a bus from TBS (KL) to Melaka Sentral and then we took a Grab to Estadia from there…
So yes, it is pretty easy to plan a trip to Melaka, and inexpensive too…
