Nothing gets us more excited during the fasting month then to be able to check out stalls after stalls offering and selling all our favourite Ramadan bazaar treats….

After last year’s hiatus because of the worldwide pandemic, Ramadan bazaars are once again up and running this year but with strict SOPs to adhere to, so let us not be too laxed about the SOPs and just follow it since it doesn’t quite seem like the pandemic is clearing up anytime yet…

Visitors to Ramadan bazaars have to comply with standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the National Security Council (MKN) such as wearing face masks, having their body temperature scanned and to check-in with the MySejahtera app… If not, then you are eligible to be fined up to a whooping RM10,000….

The difference between Ramadan bazaars and Aidilfitri bazaars is that Ramadan bazaars can only sell food and drinks whilst Aidilfitri bazaars can only sell dried goods like clothing, cookies etc..

I had the opportunity to visit 5 main Ramadan bazaars in Kuala Lumpur…

Kampung Baru Ramadan bazaar

The Kampung Baru Ramadan bazaar was previously located along Jalan Raja Muda Musa, but has relocated along Jalan Raja Alang…

Kampung Baru, with its Malay heritage, plays host to one of KL’s best Bazaar Ramadan, and has about 150 stalls selling mouth-watering delicacies and Malay dishes offering and selling putu bambu which have been around for ages, popia sira, kuih keria Melaka and murtabak…

Let’s not forget to look up and try the famous Kampung Baru bubur lambuk which is famous in Malaysia!

Pasar Keramat Ramadan Bazaar

This Ramadan bazaar is covered, so you need not worry about rain or if the sun is too scorching..

Compared to Kampung Baru Ramadan Bazaar, the Ramadan Bazaar here is more limited… And people come here for the Ayam Percik and Baked Fish which happens to be the most popular… And where you can find almost a permanent queue…

Taman Tasik Permaisuri Football Stadium Ramadan Bazaar

Said to be the biggest Ramadan Bazaar in Kuala Lumpur, with a whooping 320 stalls (including Prihatin food stall vendors) and strictly supervised personally by DBKL, this Ramadan Bazaar is one you won’t want to miss as you will definitely find almost everything edible your heart desires here…

As a friend jokingly said, if you walk the whole length of this Ramadan Bazaar and still cannot find something that whets your appetite, you must either be too fussy or too full….

There were really sooooo many stalls that were super tempting me… And it took all of my will power to resist and behave or I would have left with bags of food I couldn’t possibly finish…

However, I have to admit it can be slightly nerve wrecking too as you can hear an ambulance every 5 to 10 minutes, because of the hospital nearby… But it also serves as a great reminder to social distance and abide to the SOPs set in place…

Pantai Dalam Bazaar Ramadan.

The usually slightly chaotic atmosphere in this bazaar is more toned down because of the SOP..

But there are still queues, vendors calling out, the scent of baked chicken, burgers or grilled fish filling the air, making your stomach protest after a while of fasting, and a good number of people crowding certain walkways….

You can find murtabak, roti john, nasi kerabu, popia, watermelon juice, mango floats, nasi lemak sambal power, tepung pelita and many other offerings….

My daughter enjoyed the Ayam Ijo rice set I bought her from one of the vendors offering Ayam kicap, Ayam Ijo, Ayam Sambal etc..

Jalan Telawi 1, Bangsar Ramadan Bazaar

After checking out all the other Ramadan Bazaars, this single lane Ramadan bazaar does seem a whole lot smaller compared to the rest (to the point you might ask yourself, “This is it???!!”) but you can still find a myriad of delicious delicacies here to satisfy your cravings. Look forward to Nasi Kerabu, a famous Kelantanese dish which includes blue-coloured rice served with fresh local herbs and vegetables, salted egg, dried salted fish or fried chicken and spicy sauce.

Some say it’s not as big as it used to be, but it is still the one of the better bazaars to visit, especially when you’re pressed for time…

Its legendary putu piring made KL citizens sing its praises, making us feel that Bangsar is, truly, one of the KL’s best food havens.

Aidilfitri Bazaar

Meanwhile, the Aidilfitri Bazaar (previously held at Jalan Raja) will be operating from 17th April to 12th May at its original site, Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman…

The Aidilfitri Bazaar has about 208 traders, will operate from 10AM to midnight daily, located behind Campbell Complex right up to the intersection near Masjid India, along Jalan TAR.

The Aidilfitri Bazaar has been divided to 4 sections – A,B,C,D with limited people allowed in… (you have to take your numbers)
A- starting from Wisma Campbell up to Lrg TAR 7
B- Lrg Tar 7 up to Semua House
C- Semua House up to Wakaf Buta
D- Wakaf Buta up to Malayan Mansion(Masjid India)

The Aidilfitri bazaar is strictly one way with only one entrance and one exit for each of the sections.

So for a seamless visit, it would be a great idea to start your visit from Section A, which is at the Campbell Complex and continue with section B,C & D and exit at Malayan Mansion/Masjid India….
