Food Review 2022 – Selera Utara Retro Buffet Lunch – Glass, Thistle Johor Bahru

As Malaysians, we’re pretty much born foodies. Thanks to our country’s diversity, we are blessed with many types of different mouth-watering cuisines from many cultures.

Malaysian cuisine is a mixture of various food cultures from around the Malay archipelago, India, China, the Middle East, and even several European countries.

Back in the 15th century, what is now known as Malaysia was an important passageway for maritime trade for Arab traders who brought spices from the Middle East, Portuguese, Dutch, and English who introduced food staples such as peanuts, pineapples, avocado, tomato, squash and pumpkin…. Then during the British colonial rule in the 19th century, many Indian and Chinese laborers were brought to Malaysia, contributing to the diversity of tastes in Malaysian cuisine.

Being a multicultural country, Malaysians have of course, over the years adopted each other’s dishes to suit the taste buds of their own culture. For example, Malaysians of Chinese descent have adapted the Indian curry, and recreated a less spicy and more diluted curry to suit their taste…. Then you can find Chinese noodles which had been adapted with Indian and Malay tastes, thus Malay fried noodles and Indian fried noodles came to existence…. And the story continues….

Anyway, every region in Malaysia has their own speciality and tastes and Malaysians being foodies always love indulging in other different flavours from time to time
