Food 2026 – Kampachi Launches 47in27: A Unique Journey Through Japan’s 47 Prefectures Without Leaving Malaysia

Mention Japan and most people will think about Tokyo, Osaka or Kyoto, or maybe Hokkaido…. But well… Japan is much bigger than that….

Imagine discovering the hidden side of Japan… from lesser-known prefectures, regional delicacies, seasonal ingredients and cultural stories…. all without boarding a plane.

That is exactly what Kampachi Restaurants Sdn. Bhd. hopes to bring to diners through its newly launched 47in27, an immersive culinary and cultural campaign that celebrates all 47 prefectures of Japan across 27 months.

Recently unveiled in a landmark launch ceremony officiated by the Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia, this visionary initiative is more than just another Japanese food promotion. Instead, it is a thoughtfully curated experience designed to bring guests deeper into the heart of authentic Japan.

What Is Kampachi’s 47in27?

At its core, 47in27 is a long-term cultural and gastronomic exploration of Japan’s incredible regional diversity.

Rather than focusing only on the well-known cities many travellers already recognise, Kampachi aims to spotlight the unique flavours, traditions, stories and ingredients from every prefecture — including many hidden gems often overshadowed by mainstream travel destinations.

Over the next 27 months, diners can expect specially curated experiences inspired by Japan’s regional identity, allowing guests to taste, learn and appreciate the beautiful differences between prefectures.

For anyone who loves Japanese food, Japanese culture, or dreams of travelling around Japan, this feels like a culinary passport worth collecting.

A Culinary Experience Led by Authentic Expertise

What makes this campaign especially exciting is the involvement of Kampachi’s long-serving Executive Chef, Chef Koji Tamaru, whose passion for authenticity and provenance takes centre stage.

Expect premium seasonal harvests sourced from Japan and menus carefully crafted to reflect the soul of each featured prefecture.

Instead of simply recreating familiar Japanese dishes, the experience promises something deeper — showcasing regional ingredients, cooking traditions and culinary stories that many may have never encountered before.

It is the kind of dining experience that feels immersive, educational and delicious all at once.

More Than Dining: A Fun Collectible Journey for Guests

One thing I found especially fun about 47in27 is that it turns dining into an interactive adventure.

Guests who participate in a prefecture-themed promotion with a minimum spend of RM100 will officially become a “Boija” (Voyager) and receive a complimentary Prefecture Card alongside an exclusive Prefecture Pin.

As diners continue their journey across participating venues, they can collect unique pins linked to different prefectures and seasonal activations.

And because Japan loves collectibles (honestly, who can resist?), there is also an adorable reward system involved…  collect four unique pins within a regional season and guests unlock limited-edition milestone plushies.

Yes, food and cute collectibles in one experience? Dangerous for my wallet… but worth it.

Beyond Kampachi: A Group-Wide Japanese Experience

What makes this initiative even bigger is that the experience extends beyond Kampachi alone.

The campaign spans multiple hospitality and dining brands under the Equatorial Group, including Kampachi, IPPUDO, MAiSEN, Sky51, Sabayon, EQ and Equatorial, creating a broader, more immersive exposure to Japan’s rich culinary culture.

This means guests can enjoy different interpretations of regional Japanese experiences across multiple venues, making every stop feel like part of one larger journey.

Why 47in27 Feels Different

Regional promotions are common in restaurants, but what makes 47in27 stand out is its ambition and storytelling.

Instead of a short seasonal menu that disappears after a few weeks, this initiative is designed as a meaningful, long-term cultural bridge between Malaysia and Japan — celebrating the diversity many travellers often overlook.

It feels personal, immersive and genuinely exciting for anyone curious about Japanese cuisine beyond sushi and ramen.

Whether you are a foodie, Japan lover, culture enthusiast or someone planning your next Japan itinerary, this is one journey worth following.

Because sometimes, the best way to explore a country starts with what is on your plate.
