Event 2025 – MILO® Energy For Good: How Malaysia’s Favourite Drink Is Inspiring a Greener, More Active Generation

MILO® officially wrapped up its first successful year of its groundbreaking Energy For Good programme…. and it was milestone worth celebrating.

This pioneering initiative by Nestlé Malaysia and MILO® empowered young Malaysians to live healthier, move more, and care for the planet in meaningful ways.

To honour this achievement, an appreciation ceremony was held to celebrate the schools, educators, students and communities who played a major role in driving the programme forward throughout the year.

A Nationwide Movement for Health, Activity & Sustainability

Launched in April 2025, the MILO® Energy For Good programme is part of Nestlé’s long-term commitment to sustainability. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Tetra Pak Malaysia, the programme reached over 250,000 students across more than 200 schools…. all through a fun, point-based recycling and redemption system.

Here’s how it works:
Students collect Used Beverage Cartons (UBCs). Schools then redeem these for eco-friendly sports equipment or classroom furniture.

To date, participating schools have collected 4.2 tonnes of UBCs — that’s 300,000 packs! For the first time ever, MILO® partnered with AFN Sports Equipment to turn these cartons into real sports gear and furniture. A true example of recycling done right.

Celebrating Champions of Sustainability

As MILO® marks 75 years in Malaysia, Nestlé Malaysia CEO Juan Aranols highlighted how the Energy For Good programme shows the power of partnerships and collective action. Students collected five times more UBCs than usual, proving that small daily habits can create big wins…. greener schools, stronger communities, and a future where sustainability and sports move in sync.

Eight schools were honoured nationwide for their exceptional achievements:

  • SK Panggong (Kelantan)
  • SJKC La Salle (WP Kuala Lumpur)
  • SJKC Beng Teik (Pusat Pulau Pinang)
  • SK Sri Kelana (Selangor)
  • SK Cheneh Baru (Terengganu)
  • SK Taman Selasih (Kedah)
  • SK Temerloh Jaya (Pahang)
  • SK Putrajaya Presint 18(1) – crowned overall champion with the highest UBC collection

Real Impact on Students & Schools

Zainal Bin Abas, Deputy Director General of Education Malaysia, shared inspiring examples of how the programme is transforming students’ lives. One standout story is Puteri Marsya Darwisya binti Mazadi from SK Durian Burung, who excelled in sports using MILO®-provided equipment and proudly won her first gold medal representing Terengganu through the Majlis Sukan Sekolah Terengganu.

Schools like SJKC La Salle and SK Putrajaya Presint 18(1) were also recognised as top recyclers…. showing how sustainability and student empowerment go hand in hand.

From SK Putrajaya Presint 18(1), Muhammad Sufian bin Ishak expressed how meaningful the recognition is for the school. The programme taught students that even small actions like recycling can create bigger change, and they’re committed to continuing the journey.

Building on a Legacy of Sustainability

MILO® and Tetra Pak Malaysia aren’t new to the recycling movement. Since 2012, both have championed UBC recycling through Project CAREton, collecting 6,554 tonnes…. equivalent to 500 million UBCs… which have been transformed into roofing tiles and furniture for underserved communities.

Energy For Good builds on this legacy by deepening sustainability education while supporting sports development across Malaysia.
