What Is I LITE U?

I LITE U stands for Infrastructure, Lighting, Innovation, Technology, and Eco-Sustainability towards Urbanisation. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) under the MADANI Government, the project aims to enhance Kuala Lumpur’s urban environment while supporting sustainable tourism growth.

Bukit Bintang Transformed into a Night Tourism Icon

Chosen as the pilot location, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur’s most vibrant tourism, shopping, and entertainment district…. now shines brighter than ever.

The project spans nearly one kilometre and features more than 70 energy-efficient LED installations, including:

    • Hanging lights and moon lights with fairytale-inspired designs
    • Gateway lighting that creates a new city landmark
    • A dedicated Visit Malaysia 2026 sculpture
    • Improved pedestrian crossings and safer walkways

These upgrades not only enhance aesthetics but also improve public safety, walkability, and nighttime comfort for visitors and locals alike.

    Supporting Visit Malaysia 2026 Goals

The I LITE U initiative also serves as a curtain-raiser for Visit Malaysia 2026, which targets:

    • 28 million tourist arrivals
    • RM76 billion in tourism revenue

According to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, modern urban lighting plays a key role in boosting local businesses, encouraging night tourism, and strengthening Kuala Lumpur’s position as a global city.

Clean, Safe, and Sustainable Tourism Future

Beyond infrastructure, Malaysia is also focusing on cleanliness and civic responsibility. Beginning 1 January 2026, KPKT will enforce the Community Service Order (PKM) to promote environmental awareness and maintain clean public spaces… a crucial factor for sustainable tourism success.

    Distinguished Leaders in Attendance

The launch was attended by several key national leaders, including:
