Food Review 2020 – Rasa Viet, The Sphere, Bangsar South, KL

The Sphere is located in the midst of the iconic Bangsar South, a well known, affluent residential area, with a plethora of life style amenities and complexes… And yours truly was over there for some Vietnamese lunch at Rasa Viet…

Upon arrival, I felt my breath catch as the entrance to the restaurant is like  one of the homes in Hanoi, Vietnam or some of the classier rural parts of Vietnam with – bright yellow walls, blue French doors and windows, and decorated with red lanterns.. It was exquisite and definitely instaworthy..

The interior was just as cosy, with different shaped paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling and giving the dining area a warm ambience…

The chef / owner, of Rasa Viet was very friendly and accomodative… He is very experienced in Vietnamese cuisine and uses the traditional ways to prepare all the super flavourful dishes with the freshest and best ingredients and NO MSG usage…

Rasa Viet is Muslim friendly restaurant and the suppliers for all ingredients are Halal-certified…

First up was  the Vietnamese Traditional Dripped Coffee with Milk (RM9.90)… The Vietnamese coffee is strong as expected, with a distinct aroma and flavour which is just pretty addictive, even for a non – coffee drinker like me…

Then there was the Boiled Lemongrass Ginger drink (RM8.90) which is just soooo refreshing and good for people with gastric or “wind” problems

For starters or appetizers we had the Vietnamese Mango Salad with prawns, served with delicious prawn crackers… This is the first time I am eating this savoury salad with prawn crackers but the combination is really out of this world…

The Fried Rolls with Dry Vermicelli (RM21.60) which is deep fried is also delicious.. It is packed with healthy goodness of lettuce, bean sprouts, cucumber, pickled carrot & daikon, basil & mint leaves, Vietnamese rice vermicelli, some peanuts and served with chilli and fish sauce…

Then there is the Vietnamese sizzling pancake that comes nicely presented with additional salad on one side… As well as several sheets rice paper…

All you need to do is wet the paper with the bowl water provided till it soften, add some salad, leaves and then just add some of the pancake on top and just start rolling… It is really healthy and delicious…

A Vietnamese meal is never complete without trying out the Pho, which is a popular street food in Vietnam traditionally made with broth, rice noodles, herbs, and meat, sometimes chicken.

The Rasa Viet menu has an entire section of Pho, ranging from seafood to vegetarian as well as the more traditional meat, smoked duck and chicken. I had my Pho with chicken soup and  Smoked Duck (RM20.40)

The right way to really enjoy your Pho is by tasting the broth first to appreciate it… the soup has been simmered more than 10 hours with natural ingredients and spices.

Then only do you add in the basil and beansprouts as well as the two sauces – lemon/lime and fish sauce I think… There are additional sauces, a mixture of hoisin, chilli and sambal for dipping or if you love it spicy, then you can add it to your Pho as well…

My very delicious dinner came to a close with my favourite the Traditional Caramel Pudding (RM5.90).. The one here is not too soft and it is slightly burnt at the top caramel and totally made from scratch by the chef…

You should also try the Fried Jackfruit Chempedak with Coconut Ice Cream (RM 9.40) with the fried chunks of chempedak surrounding the coconut ice cream in the small glass cup…

Enjoy authentic Vietnamese cuisine at Muslim friendly Rasa Viet

Many people expect a heftier price tag   then it is because of the plush, clean surroundings and high quality & delicious food, but dining here is actually very reasonably priced indeed!
