Food Review 2024 – OMI, The Exchange TRX KL

If you are a fan of Japanese Fusion, you really have to discover those premium rice bowls at OMI…

They are super famous for their premium wagyu rice bowls… and have been awarded various awards over the years as a testament to their commitment to quality such as the Most Popular Japanese Restaurant in Australia 2022 by World Gourmet, Best Japanese Restaurant 2020 featured by the Age, National Winner for Emerging Franchisor 2022 by Franchise Council Australia; along with features by Herald Sun, Channel 7 News, TVB Hong Kong, SBS Radio, Zomato Top Reviewers and the list continues….

OMI Malaysia menu is pretty straightforward, and you can choose between a rice bowl or an udon bowl as your main dish, then add-on appetizers and side dishes if you want.

Just order through QR code system in 2 easy steps for main dish:
Step 1 : Choose your preferred bowl between rice or udon
Step 2 : Pick your favorite sauce from a total of 9 options – Truffle Mayo, Salted Egg, Black Truffle, Mentaiko, Signature Teriyaki, Spicy Mayo, Black pepper, Singapore Chilli Crab and even Sambal…

OMI source their wagyu from the finest local suppliers throughout Australia, where only cattle with the ‘soft’ gene that is traditionally prized for its low melting point and buttery feel are selected…. These cattle are raised on a unique all-natural grain diet, and are free of antibiotics and hormones.

My daughter and I were over at their newest restaurant at The Exchange TRX… the restaurant was of course minimalist but stylish like most Japanese restaurants are….

For appetizers, my daughter ordered some truffle mayo fries – the dish is as mentioned, you get a bowl of shoestring fries with truffle mayo sauce which are really heavenly to taste…

I ordered their signature Beef Tataki -where
marinated & lightly seared beef fillet came served on a bed of salad accompanied with a citrus- soy dipping sauce!!! Delectable!!!

For mains, my daughter being a meat lover went for the Ultimate Wagyu with Black Truffle. The portion was certainly generous with ample toppings of wagyu meat slices, onsen egg, edamame, pickles and a squeeze of truffle paste all on the naturally sweet Koshihikari Japanese short grain rice known for its aroma, firmness and creating an ideal base to your choice of protein. My daughter could not stop eating it and said that she loved it!!! The wagyu meat is of course soft, and melts in your mouth!!!

For me, I am more of a seafood lover, so I ordered the Aburi Salmon Rice Bowl with Mentaiko…. And it was indeed a gastronomic masterpiece was exceptional in every way

My main dish came with a generous large slab of salmon cooked to a medium-rare perfection, juicy and not dry. The salmon flakes away pretty easily and you taste a pretty mild salmon-flavour with some flame-grill flavour. The mentaiko sauce which has been created by marinating pollock roe in sake, konbu and yuzu, results in flavourful roe, tiny in size and red in colour and when smothered over my salmon-ensures a flavourful and tender experience with each and every bite. The balance of textures and flavors in the Aburi Salmon Rice Bowl with Mentaiko dish was really divine!!!!

For dessert, I ordered their Houjicha Crème Brulee l, which came smooth, creamy, not too sweet, with obviously brulee’d on the spot, so it gave off a satisfying crack, even with a wooden spoon….

My daughter ordered the OMI Crepe Cake – Uji Matcha which came with some matcha sauce… and it was really satisfyingly good too….

We finished our meal with Iced strawberry matcha latte for me, which was really delicious and some fizzy Pear Pazzion mocktail for her….

Overall, it was such a satisfyingly good experience and which is highly recommended to all of you who knows how to enjoy a good satisfying meal!!! And it is also pretty reasonably priced for a premium kind of meal!!!!
