Heritage reimagined, style redefined , and a whole lot of wow.
Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) 2025 got off to a dazzling start on Monday, 4 August and all eyes were on Sofia Iman. In a powerful first-ever KLFW appearance, the brand known for its timeless elegance and love for cultural heritage stepped onto the runway as the official opening show in collaboration with Suria KLCC.
And let’s just say… it was a moment.
A Tribute to Heritage , with a Modern Twist
Themed “Heritage Reimagined, Style Redefined,” the show drew a 500-strong crowd into a world where songket and batik met runway glamour. Guests themselves joined in the celebration of tradition, with many draped in rich, handwoven textiles , a subtle nod to the evening’s star material: the songket.
But this wasn’t your grandmother’s songket (though she’d be proud!). Sofia Iman took the painstakingly crafted textiles from Terengganu’s master weavers and spun them into sleek, modern silhouettes that looked just as at home on an international runway as they would at a festive celebration.
Eight Designers, One Vision
In a rare show of unity and creativity, Sofia Iman’s vision came to life through eight celebrated Malaysian designers: ABU, Ashley @ Kapas, Atelier Prive Melson, FUZA by Fuzana Mokhtaza, Jimmy Lim, Jimmy Wong, TANGOO, and Uzair Shoid.
Together, they created a vibrant, cross-style interpretation of how tradition can be worn, loved, and reimagined in today’s fashion world.
A Full-Circle Fashion Moment
Francis Tan, Executive Director and CEO of Suria KLCC, summed it up perfectly:
“To see Sofia Iman, who started with a modest booth at Suria KLCC in 2008, now open KLFW — it’s a full-circle moment we never imagined but are incredibly proud of.”
For Suria KLCC, this wasn’t just about a fashion show. It was about championing Malaysian heritage, giving local talent a world-class platform, and showing that our traditions belong on a global stage. And they’re just getting started — fashion power duo Rizman Ruzaini will be joining the Suria KLCC family with their new boutique opening in Q3 2025.
For Sofia Iman, a Dream Realised
For Puan Faralina, Founder of Sofia Iman, this opening show was more than a milestone — it was a heartfelt thank-you to the artisans who keep Malaysia’s weaving traditions alive.
“Our customers love modern interpretations of songket that they can wear in their everyday lives. This collection was a love letter to them, to our heritage, and to the craftsmen who inspire us. Opening KLFW 2025 was an honour beyond words.”
Setting the Tone for KLFW 2025
If this show was any indication, the rest of KLFW is going to be a knockout. Over the week, more than 55 Malaysian designers and brands will take to the stage, each adding their own spark to our country’s rich and ever-evolving fashion story.
One thing’s certain: Sofia Iman and Suria KLCC didn’t just open KLFW 2025 … they opened hearts, minds, and the runway to a new chapter of Malaysian style.
