Food 2026 – A Taste of Malaysia on a Three-Tiered Stand: The Westin KL’s Living Room’s Merdeka Tea Bites

Afternoon tea, but make it Malaysian! 🇲🇾

This Merdeka season, The Living Room is putting a delicious local spin on the classic afternoon tea with its Merdeka Tea Bites — a beautifully curated three-tiered spread celebrating Malaysia’s much-loved flavours, culinary heritage and multicultural influences.

And let me tell you… this is definitely not your ordinary afternoon tea! 😂

Instead of the usual sandwiches and pastries, the classic three-tiered tea stand comes loaded with creative sweet and savoury bites inspired by Malaysia.

🇲🇾 Malaysia, One Bite at a Time

The savoury tier pays tribute to local favourites and Peranakan influences, with familiar flavours given a contemporary afternoon-tea makeover.

There’s Vegetable Pie Tee, a nod to one of our favourite Nyonya appetisers, alongside Assam Pedas Prawn, bringing that wonderfully tangy and spicy Malaysian kick.

Then comes the Nasi Ayam Roll with BBQ Chicken — because honestly, who can say no to nasi ayam, especially when it arrives in a cute little tea-time format?

It’s Malaysian comfort food… just dressed up for afternoon tea! ✨

🍰 And Then… Dessert Gets Interesting

The sweet selection is where things get even more creative, drawing inspiration from Malaysia’s tropical fruits and vibrant local flavours.

Expect a refreshing Calamansi Tart, a Sarawak Pineapple Financier and a Serai Limau Profiterole, combining lemongrass and lime for a distinctly local twist.

But the one that really caught my attention?

Raspberry Laksa Mousse! 👀

Yes, you read that right — laksa in a dessert!

The adventurous sweet selection continues with Dilmah Earl Grey Tiramisu and Chocolate Banana Mousse, giving you plenty of excuses to keep reaching for the next bite.

Basically, deciding which one to try first is going to be the hardest part!

🧈 Don’t Forget the Scones

Of course, no afternoon tea is complete without freshly baked scones.

The Merdeka Tea Bites come with both a Classic Butter Scone and a locally inspired Guava Scone, served with homemade strawberry jam and… truffle butter.

That guava scone is such a fun Malaysian touch, while the truffle butter adds a little indulgence to the traditional afternoon-tea ritual.

🌺 Tea with a Malaysian Touch

To complete the experience, guests can enjoy a pot of Dilmah Natural Rosehip with Hibiscus Tea.

The hibiscus is a thoughtful tribute to Malaysia’s national flower, making the tea pairing particularly fitting for a Merdeka celebration.

So yes, even the tea is joining in on the patriotic festivities! 🇲🇾🌺

💕 Perfect for a Merdeka Catch-Up

Priced at RM69 nett for one person or RM128 nett for two persons, the Merdeka Tea Bites make a lovely option for an afternoon catch-up with friends, an intimate celebration, a leisurely date or simply an excuse to indulge in something a little different.

What I love about this afternoon tea is how it takes familiar Malaysian flavours and presents them in a playful, elegant format.

From pie tee and Assam pedas to nasi ayam, calamansi, Sarawak pineapple, lemongrass, lime and even laksa, it’s almost like taking a little culinary tour of Malaysia — without leaving your tea table.

And that’s what Merdeka is all about, right?

Celebrating the flavours, cultures and traditions that make Malaysia uniquely Malaysia. 🇲🇾❤️
