1 Utama is a gigantic mall that is home to more than 650 high-end brands and local labels. The world’s fourth-largest shopping mall definitely has something for everyone from the normal housewife just wanting to get some good food with /for her family and do some grocery shopping; to movie buffs wanting to catch a movie at one of the two cineplexes; songstress and singers wannabes who love to croon, scream or entertain friends at one of the two karaoke centres; a heaven for kiddies at the spaceship-themed kids’ play land; friends wanting to compete with each other at the 36-lane bowling alley.. And so on…
What which is lesser known is that 1 Utama has some pretty exciting and thrilling places you have to visit too..
As yours truly recently just found out.. (shame on me, considering I go to 1 Utama almost once a week or so)
Malaysia’s first ever Double FlowRider that was designed in the USA gives sports-boarders here in Klang Valley a chance to flow on the waves and show off their surf skills and tricks..
This interesting sport is a hybrid boardsport which combines techniques of surfing, snowboarding, skateboarding, wakeboarding and skim boarding…
The FlowRider is managed by local flowboarder champion and one of the world’s top flowboarders, Alfian Affandi, so you can relax and trust that your safety is in good hands…
Even kids can join in on the fun too! With a minimum height of 107cm and overall good health, you can start a new hobby and impress your friends…
To book a ride, just register over the counter at the entrance of FlowRider located at Lot LG601, Lower Ground Floor, 1 Utama E. It’s that simple
Opening hours – 10am – 10pm (Sun to Thurs), and 10am – 10:30pm (Fri & Sat).
On the other hand, if you have ever wanted a chance to sky dive but worry about your safety or how your might take it etc.., you can give it a try now safely at Asia Pacific’s first-in-mall indoor-skydiving facility, the AirRider.
This might just be the first step for you before you decide to jump off flying planes and really skydive…
AirRider’s safe and secured all-glass panelled circular wind tunnel is about 12-foot in diameter and 10-metre in height and has the latest wind technology which has been imported all the way from Czech Republic and Australia…
The tunnel’s wind speed goes up to 250km/h, which is great for those who are keen on picking up some high flying tricks quick…
Your safety is reassured in the hands of facility manager Tali Woods and chief instructor Warren Riley, and a team of professionally trained and qualified instructors..
You’ll be provided with a flight suit, helmet, goggles, and personalised flight certificate.
Opening hours- 10am – 10pm (Sun to Thurs), and 10am – 10:30pm (Fri & Sat)
Bring the whole family or the kids and drop by Camp 5…
Camp 5 is Asia’s largest indoor rock climbing setup, but the beauty of this place is that the place has easy walls for beginners and demanding climbs for experts…
The course is a combination of 1,600sqm of roped climbing walls, 8m-14m top-rope and 14m-16m lead climbing space, plus a 300sqm-high bouldering wall if you want to climb without ropes…
It is RM28 to get into the whole centre, RM18 for gear rental and RM20 (per hour) for lead rope rental: instructors are always on hand to guide novices..
This climbing gym also offers after-school programs and school holiday camps for kids – stop by the centre to find out more…
Opening hours – 14:00 – 23:00 Monday – Friday; 10:00 – 20:00 Saturday & Sunday
Baseball might not be popular here in Malaysia, but It’s a Hit is here to encourage visitors to try out their purpose-built automated baseball batting cages… (the only one in Southeast Asia)
This rooftop baseball batting place in 1 Utama can accommodate unlimited number of batters, making it a great place for a group of friends or family or so even team building…
For just RM5, you will can try 15 strikes… the speed and height can be adjusted to suit your needs…
The cages are also suitable for softballers, cricketers and generally anyone wishing to have some fun whacking a couple of balls around… Believe me it is a pretty good stress relieving activity.. Just stand there and try your best to whack the ball (imagine the face of person you are super annoyed at.. Lol)
Take the lift near Parkson behind Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in the New Wing to the rooftop as it gets you there to It’s a Hit.
Opening Hours – 12:00 – 22:30 Monday – Thursday;
10:00 – 24:00 Friday & Saturday;
10:00 – 22:30 Sunday
Location – Upper Roof (via High Street Lift)
After all the energy you have exhausted at the above places… It is time to just relax and wind down…
I would suggest heading to 1 Utama’s Secret Garden…
The Secret Garden is 1 Utama’s rooftop garden that covers an expansive area of 30,000 square feet… Here you can find over 500 species of carefully curated tropical and temperate plants…
By the way did you know this beautiful and tranquil ‘Garden in the Sky’ is currently Southeast Asia’s largest rooftop garden…
The place is just Instagrammable and picturesque and you can even use this venue for wedding photography….
So head over there and spend a moment or two at The Secret Garden. And the best thing of all? It is free….
Opening hours – 10am – 10pm (only on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday)
7th floor, 1 Utama New Wing (take the lift opposite Secret Recipe /next to Memory Lane)
