The Gala Night of ASWARA’s Pearl Jubilee Celebration & Theatre Musical Performance of “Sakti Merong Mahawangsa”  took centre stage during the Gala Night at Pentas 1, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac).

The spectacular event marked the highlight of the 30th Anniversary celebrations of the National Academy of Arts, Culture, and Heritage (ASWARA).

Established in 1994 as the National Arts Academy (ASK) under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC), ASWARA has evolved into a premier institution producing talented artistes and creatives while serving as a ‘guardian’ of the nation’s cultural legacy.

Marking its Pearl Jubilee, ASWARA remains steadfast in its mission to uphold and promote Malaysia’s arts, culture and heritage.

As part of its 30th Anniversary celebration, ASWARA presents the grand revival of Sakti Merong Mahawangsa, a legendary epic that promises to make history in Malaysia’s theatre arts scene.

The production, described as an ambitious collaboration, unites ASWARA alumni, lecturers, and students.

The production of Sakti Merong Mahawangsa brings to life the story of Raja Merong Mahawangsa, a figure celebrated for his bravery, resilience, and loyalty in establishing Kedah Zamin Turan, now known as Kedah.

The narrative follows Merong’s mission to unite the Roman Prince and the Chinese Princess against the will of the mighty Sang Geroda, culminating in an epic battle of courage and divine power. The tale ends with peace restored and the birth of Kedah as a land of prosperity and unity.

Featuring over 100 talents, including notable names such as Najua P. Ramlee, Hairi Safwan, Fadhli Masoot, Aris Kadir, Fiza Thomas, Ezdianie Hayatie, Saiful Wazien, Amirul Hakim, and Reza Mohamed, the musical was a performance of exceptional calibre.
