Recently, I had the pleasure of staying at the newly opened Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown, and here’s why it felt like just what I needed, and why it might be just what you need, too.

Located at 7, Jalan Dutamas 2, Hyatt Regency KL occupies a prime spot in KL Midtown…. a rapidly developing mixed-use neighbourhood….

What makes this location especially good for a staycation:

• It’s close enough to KL’s central areas, cultural landmarks, and shopping, but far enough to feel like you left the typical city rhythm behind. 
• It’s right across from MITEC and near MATRADE, which means there’s always something happening nearby events, exhibitions, or dining options. 
• They designed the hotel and its surroundings with sustainability in mind. The architecture, by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, uses natural materials (wood, stone, paper) and combines light, openness, and calm. The aesthetics alone make walking into the hotel feel like stepping into a serene retreat.

One thing I appreciated was how the hotel caters to different needs, whether you’re there for a quick weekend break or wanting to feel more “at home.”

  Guest rooms & suites: There are 306 guest rooms and suites, with a variety of sizes and layouts. Even the standard rooms are generous (roughly 42–45 sqm), meaning you have enough space to relax, move around, and feel comfortable…
• Serviced residences: For longer stays or if you just want extra comfort, the 104 serviced residences are ideal. These come with one or two bedrooms, kitchenettes or full kitchens, separate living & dining areas, which gives you more flexibility than a regular hotel room…

Because a staycation without relaxation = just a change of scenery. Lucky for us, Hyatt Regency KL has plenty to offer:

• Infinity pools: There are two. One on the 5th floor for hotel guests, with lush tropical greenery around, and another high-up on the 32nd floor exclusive to residence guests with skyline views. Swimming while gazing at city lights? Yes, please. 
  

• Core Fitness Centre: 24-hour gym with good equipment. If you like to keep up with your fitness even while resting, this helps. 
  

• Kidz Club: If you have children or are travelling with family, there’s a dedicated space for kids, so you can have some moments of peace.
