Lifestyle 2026 – MPH Bookstores 120 Years Strong: Celebrating Stories, Community & A New Chapter at The Exchange TRX

If you grew up in Malaysia, chances are you’ve spent countless hours wandering the aisles of MPH Bookstores — whether it was hunting for school reference books, discovering your first young adult novel, or picking out a last-minute gift.

With a legacy dating back to 1906, MPH Bookstores has grown into one of Malaysia’s most beloved bookstore chains, shaping our reading culture for over a century. And in 2026, this proudly homegrown brand celebrates an incredible 120 years of stories, knowledge and community.

As someone who still believes there’s magic in the scent of freshly printed pages, witnessing MPH’s evolution feels like watching a timeless classic being rewritten for a new generation.

A Contemporary Chapter at The Exchange TRX

Today, the MPH legacy is most vividly expressed at its stunning flagship store at The Exchange TRX Mall — a space that blends modern retail design with the comforting familiarity we’ve always associated with the brand.

From curated book displays to thoughtfully designed reading corners, the store feels less like a retail outlet and more like a literary playground for families, students, professionals and book lovers alike.

Beyond physical stores nationwide, MPH is also embracing the digital era, ensuring readers can browse, shop and engage seamlessly both online and offline. It’s the perfect balance of heritage and innovation — exactly what a 120-year-old icon should look like.

120 Years, 1 Living Anthology

To mark this major milestone, MPH is rolling out a year-long 120th Anniversary campaign — transforming its rich history into a “living anthology” that invites Malaysians to co-author the next chapter together.

One of the biggest highlights? The launch of MPH Explore, a brand-new one-stop membership app replacing the MRewards platform. Existing members will have their records migrated progressively, and this new app promises a more seamless, rewarding experience for loyal readers.

Even more exciting — MPH will introduce a 120th Anniversary Contest exclusively for MPH Explore members (tentatively June to December 2026), featuring attractive prizes from partners such as:

  • Bertam Wellness & Spa Resort
  • Atlas by Bank Muamalat

Definitely a good reason to start scanning that membership QR code more often!

Celebrating Excellence: Anugerah Juara Buku 2026

Held at the luxurious Aurum Theatre, the MPH Bookstores Book of the Year Awards (Anugerah Juara Buku)gathered around 200 guests — including authors, publishers, distributors, media partners and influencers.

What made this year even more special? BookTok creators and book influencers were invited to present the awards, bridging traditional publishing with today’s digital reading community.

More Than Just A Bookstore

What I love most about MPH isn’t just the books — it’s the memories.

It’s parents guiding their children to their first storybook.
It’s students flipping through revision guides before exams.
It’s friends debating over which novel to read next.

After 120 years, MPH Bookstores continues to bring families and communities together through the joy of reading — proving that while retail trends may evolve, the love for stories will always remain timeless.

Here’s to 120 years of turning pages — and many more chapters ahead. 📚✨
