Health 2026 – PHKL’s “Sip & Share” Opens Honest Conversations on Women’s Health

Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur (PHKL), in collaboration with KitaParents, successfully hosted its inaugural “Sip & Share” session — an intimate, café-style talk series created to encourage open and honest conversations about women’s health.

Held on 17 March 2026 in Cyberjaya, the first session, themed “Perimenopause Unfiltered,” marked the official launch of PHKL’s 2026 movement, “What Women Want (For Health).” The initiative positions PHKL as a supportive, safe space where women can openly explore their health journeys through meaningful dialogue and expert guidance.

Breaking the Silence on Perimenopause

For many Malaysian women, perimenopause remains a misunderstood phase — often brushed off as stress or simply part of ageing. Through this initiative, PHKL aims to bridge the gap between clinical expertise and real-life experiences, making conversations around women’s health more accessible and relatable.

The session was led by Dr Premitha Damodaran, Consultant Obstetrics and Gynaecologist at PHKL and Board Member of the International Menopause Society. Her interactive sharing allowed attendees to openly discuss symptoms that are often endured in silence, offering both medical insights and reassurance.

“Women today juggle multiple roles — as mothers, professionals, and caregivers — often at the expense of their own physiological well-being,” shared Teresa Chin, CEO of Parenthood Media. “By bringing conversations like these into a café setting, we make essential health knowledge more approachable and community-driven.”

Dr Premitha added, “Many women feel isolated during perimenopause because they don’t realise their symptoms are part of a larger hormonal shift. Awareness is key. Understanding that you don’t have to suffer in silence is the first step toward navigating this phase with confidence and grace.”

A Safe Space for Real Conversations

The event welcomed mothers from the Parenthood and KitaParents community, creating a warm and supportive environment for sharing personal experiences.

Participants engaged in guided discussions using table prompt cards with relatable questions such as:

  • “One thing I blamed on stress… but now I’m not so sure”
  • “The symptom I Googled at 2am but didn’t dare ask anyone about”

To further encourage openness, a live Q&A session allowed attendees to submit anonymous questions, ensuring everyone could seek clarity without hesitation or judgment.

The evening concluded with a Buka Puasa and networking session, where participants connected over refreshments, reinforcing the sense of community and shared understanding.

Empowering Women Through Awareness

Perimenopause is a significant life transition, and no woman should have to navigate it alone. Initiatives like “Sip & Share” highlight the importance of early awareness, open dialogue, and access to professional care.

Women experiencing symptoms that impact their quality of life are encouraged to seek guidance from qualified specialists, such as the experts at PHKL, to better understand their condition and explore suitable management plans.
