There are some celebrations that leave behind more than photographs and souvenirs — they leave behind memories, new discoveries and a deeper appreciation for culture. That was certainly the spirit of PAVILION × JAGAM Matsuri 2026, which brought the month-long “Konnichiwa Japan – Together, Here” campaign at Pavilion Bukit Jalil to a vibrant close from 31 July to 2 August 2026.

The three-day matsuri brought together shoppers, cultural enthusiasts and members of the Japanese community for a lively celebration of Japanese culture, traditions, food, entertainment and craftsmanship.
Held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 efforts to celebrate and promote cultural diversity, Pavilion Bukit Jalil collaborated with the Japan Graduates’ Association of Malaysia (JAGAM), with the support of the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, for the second edition of PAVILION × JAGAM Matsuri.

Following the success of its inaugural edition, this year’s celebration further strengthened Pavilion Bukit Jalil’s commitment to encouraging meaningful cultural exchange between Malaysia and Japan through immersive experiences and authentic cultural activities.

The opening ceremony was graced by H.E. Shikata Noriyuki, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, alongside Puan Sri Cindy Lim, Executive Chairman of Kuala Lumpur Pavilion Sdn. Bhd.; Puan Nuwal Fadhilah Ku Azmi, Senior Director, International Promotion Division (Asia/Africa) of Tourism Malaysia; Mr. Gary Tang, President of the Japan Graduates Association of Malaysia (JAGAM); and Mr. Patrick Liau, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Pavilion REIT.
A Month-Long Journey into Japanese Culture
From 1 July to 2 August 2026, Pavilion Bukit Jalil was transformed into a colourful Japanese-inspired destination as part of “Konnichiwa Japan – Together, Here.”

Throughout the campaign, visitors discovered Japanese culinary delights, retail finds, interactive activities, cultural experiences and plenty of Instagram-worthy moments.
Shoppers also enjoyed exclusive Gift-with-Purchase rewards, including a Furoshiki Wrap with a minimum spend of RM300, or a TSUTAYA BOOKS Tote Bag and RM10 Shopping Voucher with a minimum spend of RM500 in a single receipt.

But it was the final three days that truly brought the celebration to life.
Discovering Japan at the Japanese Marketplace
From 31 July to 2 August, the Japanese Marketplace at Level 2, stretching from the Pink Zone to the Orange Zone, offered visitors an eclectic mix of Japanese-inspired treats, products and experiences.
Among the highlights were authentic Japanese snacks by Shojikiya, the Matcha Corner by Ohcha Matcha and The Haven Club, the nostalgic Kingyo Scooping experience, Japanese arcade games by Metapark, and a Creative Handcraft Marketplace by Persatuan Seni Jahitan Kreatif Malaysia.
It was a wonderful opportunity to experience Japanese flavours, traditions and creativity — all under one roof.
Over at PIAZZA, Level 3, the Moshi-Moshi Bazaar recreated the lively atmosphere of a Japanese street market, featuring more than 120 booths showcasing Japanese street food, desserts, lifestyle products, handcrafted creations and cultural experiences.
Creativity, Discovery and a Touch of Kawaii
At the Centre Court on Level 2, PAVILION × JAGAM Matsuri 2026 offered even more hands-on experiences through participating tenants including Nitori, TSUTAYA BOOKS Bukit Jalil, Gifuto, Cosmic Creation and many more.
One particularly charming attraction was “Tiny Dolls. Unexpected Places,” created in collaboration with UCSI University’s De Institute of Creative Arts and Design (ICAD).
Adorable Kawaii dolls dressed in Japanese-inspired outfits were hidden throughout the mall, turning a simple shopping trip into a fun treasure hunt. Visitors were encouraged to discover, photograph and share their finds on social media.
And of course, no matsuri would feel complete without Bon Odori.
The daily Bon Odori invited shoppers to step into the circle, follow the traditional movements and experience first-hand the cheerful community spirit of a Japanese festival.
Three Days of Music, Dance and Japanese Culture
The three-day festival was filled with a colourful line-up of entertainment and cultural showcases.

Headlining performances included Malaysia-based J-pop idol group KLP48, Japanese singer-songwriter Kenichi Yamasaki, J-pop dance group The Jumpers, cosplay performers Mao Xian and Akiho, and comedian Mr. Cherry.
Traditional and contemporary Japanese culture came together through energetic Wadaiko performances by Wadaiko Syo, vibrant Yosakoi Dance by Malaysia KL Seiran Matoi & Kobe Seiran Matoi, and the dynamic Eisa Dance Okinawa by Hirano Kijimuna.
Adding an elegant touch to the celebration was the Kimono Fashion Show, which showcased the beauty and craftsmanship of traditional Japanese attire.
Experiencing Japanese Craftsmanship and Heritage
Beyond the performances, visitors had plenty of opportunities to get closer to Japanese traditions and craftsmanship.

The Maguro Live Cutting Show, which included complimentary sashimi tasting for the first 500 shoppers, was one of the culinary highlights, while the Yukata Dressing Experience offered visitors the chance to experience wearing traditional Japanese summer attire.
Other memorable activities included Masaru Knives Malaysia Demonstration, The Art of Kimono Kitsuke, the Cosplay Skit Contest, and the beautiful Kimono Showcases at the Spanish Steps.
Visitors could also admire the Exclusive Japanese Diningware Collection Showcase at the Main Entrance, celebrating the artistry and attention to detail associated with Japanese craftsmanship.
A Celebration of Connections
More than simply a celebration of Japanese culture, PAVILION × JAGAM Matsuri was ultimately about bringing people together.
As Dato’ Joyce Yap, CEO of Retail, Kuala Lumpur Pavilion Sdn. Bhd., shared, the matsuri celebrated the connections created through cultural exchange, with the second-year partnership between Pavilion Bukit Jalil and JAGAM, supported by the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, reflecting a shared commitment to creating meaningful experiences for communities.
And looking back, it was easy to see that spirit throughout the celebration — from families enjoying Japanese treats and children trying traditional games, to visitors dancing together during Bon Odori and discovering new aspects of Japanese culture.
A Dream Trip to Japan

The month-long celebration ended on an especially memorable note for three lucky Pavilion Bukit Jalil members.
As part of the Konnichiwa Japan Spend & Win Contest, held from 1 to 20 July, shoppers had the opportunity to win a 7 Days 6 Nights Holiday Package to Japan for two, with a total travel package value of RM80,000 for three lucky winners, proudly sponsored by Joy Paradise.
The three winners were presented with their Japan holiday packages, providing a fitting finale to a campaign centred around bringing the experience and spirit of Japan closer to Malaysians.

Until the Next Matsuri…
As the lights, performances and festival stalls of PAVILION × JAGAM Matsuri 2026 came to an end, what remained were wonderful memories of music, food, fashion, craftsmanship, laughter and cultural discovery.
Now in its second year, “Konnichiwa Japan – Together, Here” continues to grow into a signature annual platform for Pavilion Bukit Jalil — creating opportunities for Malaysians and the Japanese community to connect, learn from one another and celebrate the richness of cultural exchange.
For those who were there, it was three unforgettable days of matsuri magic.
And for everyone who discovered a little more of Japan at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, perhaps the best part is knowing that the journey of cultural exchange doesn’t really end when the festival does.
Sayonara for now, Japan — until the next celebration!
