The Kuala Lumpur Journal or The KL Journal is an industrial chic boutique hotel with a touch of ol’ skool/nostalgia.. located along Jalan Beremi in Bukit Bintang.
You can find it in a VERY strategic location slightly behind or rather on the side of the HSBC bank Bukit Bintang along Jalan Sultan Ismail.. I personally find the location of the KL Journal super convenient as it is right in the bustling Bukit Bintang area and close to just about everywhere, and when I say everywhere, I meant shopping, food, stations, bus stops etc…
The KL Journal is within walking distance of the main business district, high-end luxury retail outlets like Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Starhill, Fahrenheit88, Lot 10, Sungei Wang and Low Yat Plaza…
Amazingly, just take a nice evening stroll through the the lanes around the hotel and you find yourself at the trendy Changkat neighbourhood where you can find plenty of food, clubs and entertainment to immerse yourself in…
Being in KL for so long, I swear there can be no better place to stay if you want a hotel with one of the best locations.. as just walk to the main road and you will find a bus stop where you can get a free ride on the purple GoKL bus to KLCC on the Green Line or Central Market on the Blue Line.. yup, I said it, its free… And the MRT and monorail are also just very short walking distances away to go everywhere else – I swear it is just so amazingly convenient…
So psst.. if you are at KLCC and want to get back to the hotel, just jump on the Purple GoKL bus at the main road of Jalan Ampang and you will find yourself back at the hotel in minutes..
The boutique hotel has a total of 112 rooms all that comes with floor-to-ceiling windows, free WiFi in rooms. There are king and twin deluxe rooms with options for eight designer suites.
Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the friendly guard who will open the door for you with a smile..
The lobby is beautiful and just pretty homey with comfortable contemporary seats around..I know I was fascinated by the wall decorations and the warm vibes I felt around the hotel..
Checking in was a breeze and then we were handed a couple of room card keys which were turquoise and magenta in colour.. My daughter pointed out that there were different little travel quotes on the room card keys..
To get to your room, you need to touch your room key at the little white square under the numbers buttons in the elevator, which is a security procedure, so not just anyone can go to your floor -only the guests staying on the floor..
My mini me and I got ourself a Deluxe King room.., that came with a comfortable king size bed with ergonomic mattresse, pure cotton sheets with high thread count, and you have to love the duck down and micro fibre pillows which are just so cozy…
I have to say I loved the blown-up prints of KL street life by local photographer Che Mat, on the too of my bed.. and there is even a little postcard you can bring home with you…
The curtains open up to floor-to-ceiling windows for plenty of natural light as well as an amazing view…
There is a 40″ flat screen TV, a working desk with USB ports and plug points
On your bed side table is a 555 notebook which every Malaysian will feel nostalgic about since it is significant with olden days where you can take your groceries or food on a credit and have it all recorded in the book to be paid at month’s end.. You can also find an insider guide to KL curated by the KL Journal that gives guests suggestions on how to explore the city and get the best out of their visit.. I like this very much…
The bathroom is spacious and comes with both a hand held shower and a rain shower as well as ample amenities..
You can also find bathrobes and bedroom slippers, iron, ironing board, a safe in the first drawer and a hairdryer.
Yup, the hotel comes with FREE High Speed WIFI and I have to attest that I love the speed…
If you get a Superior Deluxe room, you will be getting a even more spacious room and it includes a sofa that you can convert into an extra sleeping area for a child.. as well as a Nespresso coffee machine.
The pool on the 11th floor is definitely one of the main features of the hotel with pretty breathtaking views of Bukit Bintang and great for sunrises
There is a gym on level 10 that comes with 3 brand new cardio machines and free weights all you need for a good workout as you gaze out on the bustling Bukit Bintang road or neon lights of Bukit Bintang in the evening…
Do not forget to check out the Workers’ Union on the 1st floor, where you can find a meeting room, work stations or small conference area.. It is a floor dedicated to working spaces and meeting rooms. But the conference room area is converted to a games room when not in use.. with a table tennis table which my daughter and a friend from another room enjoyed spending time at.
You can find an al fresco bar, weather beaten tables, dramatic lighting and an eclectic mix of communal and comfy lounge seating it is a great place to unwind. Do catch the evening entertainment offered at certain evenings such as Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays..
Designed in a very homey and cozy atmosphere is the Kedai Kopi Journal, a local coffeeshop concept serves unfussy food that’s big on flavour.. which serves a damn great value for money buffet style lunch and your choice of mains on weekdays for just RM20nett…
I am serious.. where else can you dine in a lovely atmosphere with sumptous salads, spring rolls, mushroom soup, bread rolls, dessert and your choice of Chicken Crisp, Wagyu Beef Burger, Pasta or Grilled Barramundi… I personally cannot get enough of the mushroom soup and the Grilled Barramundi and while I am not a huge fan of french fries, I somehow cannot resist the sweet potato fries served here…
And yes, breakfast as well in the same style.. buffet with your choice of main, egg etc..
The KL Journal also offer in-house parking for your peace-of-mind on COMPLIMENTARY basis. Just make sure to validate your parking ticket at the Front Office upon check out or exiting the hotel on day trips.
