We definitely heaved a huge sigh of relief when RMCO or Recovery Movement Control Order was announced along with the permission to travel domestically…
It has been ages since we got to travel and this was just heaven sent.. So when I found out that the KL Bird Park was opened, albeit with the New Normal SOPs the Malaysian government implemented to keep everyone safe … I definitely could not contain my excitement…
So it was off to the KL Bird Park we go, a good friend and me…
The KL Bird Park is located in the heart of the serene and scenic KL Lake Gardens barely 10 minutes’ drive from the city centre of Kuala Lumpur…
It is home to more than 3,000 local and foreign birds of approximately 200 different species…
Upon arrival, we had to fill up our details via the QR Code and get our temperatures tested… Then only were we allowed to get our tickets and head in…
I cannot be sure if the birds found us annoying or if they were excited to once again see humans visiting them but the parakeets were sure were cocking their heads to the side as we entered the first enclosure..
Sprawling approximately 20.9 acres of verdant valley terrain, the KL Bird Park is divided into several sections: Love Aviary, Brahminy Land, Bulbul Land, World of Parrots, Flamingo Pond, Hornbill Park and many more, to keep the different species of feathered creatures separate but they are free to fly around their respective enclosures.
Without a doubt the hornbill area is the best as you can see up to seven varieties of hornbills, most of whom are indigenous to Malaysia, including the rhinoceros hornbill – one of the world’s largest hornbill species…
It sure was amazing getting to see this majestic bird up close, especially while it was being fed..
The tiled walkways are the perfect way to enjoy the sight of these beautiful birds and there are seats which are marked or crossed out for social distancing….
The beautiful landscaped gardens have storks and flamingos frolicking in the water, finches and thrushes chirping in the trees and owls roosting in barns…
You can see bird shows showcasing these intelligent macaws and parrots…
Of course, do not forget to grab your souvenir picture with the birds and sanitise your hands at the check points…
It was an amazing little getaway in the city after getting cooped up at home for 3 whole months, I should say… And well, it’s the time to really help support our local tourism, so head on over to visit our feathery friends… They are also having a great promotion now…
Only RM16 for Malaysian adults, RM 6 for Malaysian kids and
RM56 International adult visitors
And don’t forget to indulge in the delicious food at Hornbill Restaurant and Cafe which is also offering a 30% discount until end of June…
