So yours truly was given the opportunity to stay at the JEN Penang Georgetown by Shangri-La, on a recent trip to Penang and it was definitely a beautiful and memorable stay….

JEN Penang Georgetown by Shangri-La is a 17-storey landmark which is super conveniently located in the heart of George Town and right next Penang’s tallest building KOMTAR….

Checking in was a breeze with the receptionist being friendly yet professional and I was given my key card once everything was verified…

JEN Penang Georgetown by Shangri-La’s prominence in the multicultural capital of Penang dates back over 30 years and in staying true to its roots, elements of the colourful Peranakan culture were whimsically mixed into the hotel’s design to sport playful details that integrate contemporary elements, while the local culture is brought to life with the vibrancy of a modern city….

JEN Penang Georgetown by Shangri-La features 443 guestrooms and suites, as well as two new room categories for family-friendly comforts – the Family Room (32 square metres) and Apartment (60 square metres) with views of the city landscape.

Each room and suite, ranges from 28 square metres to 78 square metres, offers a view of historical George Town while showcasing one of Penang’s three heritage features on customised wallpaper – the trishaw, colourful Peranakan tiles and traditional shop-house louvered shutters.

I had the opportunity to stay in one of the comfortable and modern Deluxe Rooms which came with a super cosy king sized bed

My room was beautifully contemporary styled with light wood floors and a colour palette of warm tones, and has a working area, universal sockets, USB charging outlets and came with a bath tub in the bathroom..

Depending on the room category you selected, you can find additional perks such as:

• A stylish pull-out sofa bed in the Family Room, Apartments and Suites
• A modern kitchenette with a washing machine and refrigerator in each Apartment
• A Nespresso coffee machine in each Apartment, Executive Suite, Specialty Suit and Malaysian Suite

I enjoyed a truly satisfying breakfast which was pretty generous and also had a pretty filling lunch at the all-day dining Café Jen which offers diners local culinary classics and international flavours. Café Jen’s decor is minimalist but playful, with wooden tables and shelves of potted plants to enliven the area … and it is an ideal place for business entertainment or intimate family gatherings…

The vibrant Lobby Lounge comes with a ready-to-go snack bar serving up casual refreshments with a local twist. .. Like the rest of JEN Penang Georgetown, a wood theme runs throughout and transforms the area into a cosy space for gatherings and meetings. Its interior is a showcase of Peranakan style and comfort with decorative turquoise tiles and comfortable sofas.

I personally loved the quirky combination of contemporary furniture pieces and hanging rattan sofas in the Lobby area…

JEN Penang Georgetown by Shangri-La has a pretty well equipped Health Club with ample fitness equipment, as well as a sauna and steam room for post-workout relaxation….

There is also a big outdoor swimming pool thats suited for children and adults alike and a secret garden …

Located on Magazine Road, Jen Penang Georgetown is merely a 30-minute drive from Penang International Airport and within short walking distance to the main public transport terminal, shopping malls, local hawker centres and alleys dotted with quirky street art….and that is among the things I liked best about the hotel…
