I finally made my way back to Penang after being away for months and wanted a beach getaway…. And Mercure Penang Beach Hotel was my first choice, and it is definitely a perfect choice if you want the beach at your doorstep or a breathtaking view of it when you open the curtains in your room….

Checking in was a breeze and the reception sorted out my room and handed over the keys soon enough…

Mercure Penang Beach Hotel is conveniently located in Tanjung Bungah about 50 minutes drive away from the Penang international airport in Penang and you can choose to drive, take a grab / airasia ride or just wait for the 102 Rapid Penang bus that runs from the Penang International Airport to Teluk Bahang… it will probably just cost you about RM3 or RM3.50 on the bus (prepare small change)

Mercure Penang Beach Hotel is a 4-star beach-front hotel, and a pretty popular getaway location for locals because not much other places can you get a relatively small unspoiled clean, semi-private beach!!! Batu Ferringhi to me can be pretty dirty and overly crowded at times / depending on certain areas

My room at the Mercure Penang Beach Hotel was the Superior King Room With Ocean View, one of the coveted rooms which offers an amazing view of the beach and also sunrise on a lovely day… the room is pretty spacious at 301 sq ft … with the king sized bed being the centre of it all… the bed is of course super comfy

There is a working table, the sofa (which has seen better days), a coffee table and all the other amenities found in a regular hotel room…

The bathroom came with a hand held shower and a rain shower which with oretty good water pressure and I absolutely loved the essential oil based toiletries provided

Peckish and looking for some food? Mercure Penang Beach Hotel’s restaurant is The Ombak and they have a decent buffet breakfast spread…

…and if you want some Penang food with a twist, do give their Salmon Curry Mee and Salmon Laksa a try…

.. it is pretty nice and served with a generous slice of salmon…. And the dishes come with free rose syrup drinks

Mercure Penang Beach Hotel facilities include a pretty generous swimming pool, and a well equipped 24 hour gym and free high speed WiFi throughout the resort. There are watersports available operated by a third party at the beach too….

But for a beach hotel in Penang, Mercure Penang Beach hotel would be a great base from which to explore the state considering that Penang’s main attractions – Batu Ferringhi and George Town are like just 15 mins away. And you can also visit Tanjung Bungah area where there are malls and lots of places to eat and drink as well from local food, fast food and cafes…
