Malaysia rang in the New Year with an unforgettable celebration as the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) Countdown Festival reached its grand finale on New Year’s Eve at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. The landmark event, a strategic collaboration between Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, and the Ministry of Tourism and Arts and Culture (MOTAC), set the stage for an exciting year of tourism ahead and officially ignited nationwide momentum for the VM2026 campaign.

The highlight of the night was the highly anticipated New Year countdown led by Malaysia’s Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who joined thousands of locals and international visitors in welcoming 2026. The event’s national importance was further underscored by the presence of YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, reinforcing the country’s strong commitment to tourism growth.

Speaking at the celebration, YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing shared that the event symbolised Malaysia’s readiness to welcome the world. With its rich culture, creative energy, and renowned hospitality, Malaysia is setting its sights on 43 million international tourist arrivals, strengthening its position on the global tourism map.

The VM2026 Countdown Festival was a stunning showcase of Malaysia’s creativity and innovation on the world stage. Drawing massive crowds from near and far, the New Year’s Eve celebration featured a breathtaking multimedia spectacle, combining pyromusical fireworks, drone formations, and laser projections that lit up the Kuala Lumpur skyline.
One of the standout moments was the eye-catching 3D anamorphic display featuring VM2026’s adorable Malayan Sun Bear mascots, Wira and Manja, which quickly became a crowd favourite and a social media highlight.

The main stage came alive with electrifying performances by some of Malaysia’s top local artistes, including Shila Amzah, Aina Abdul, Belle Sisoski, Vanessa Reynauld, Kidd Santhe, The Kuans, KLP48, Nazu, Rezza Shah, Danson Ooi, Euzen, and Penny.

The build-up to New Year’s Eve was further energised by daily live DJ performances, flash mobs at the iconic Bukit Bintang Crossing (Malaysia’s own Shibuya), and busking sessions across key locations, creating buzz both on the streets and across social media.
