Travel 2026 – Malaysia Aviation Group Expands Global Connectivity with New Routes, More Flights and Enhanced In-Flight Experience

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is taking another step forward in its growth journey with a series of strategic developments across its airline and aviation services businesses, strengthening its position as a leading regional aviation group while supporting Malaysia’s ambition to become a key global travel hub.

Under its Long-Term Business Plan 3.0 (LTBP3.0), MAG announced a series of network expansions, new international routes, increased flight frequencies and the next phase of growth for MAG Culinary Solutions (MAGCS) as it continues to enhance connectivity and elevate the overall passenger experience.

Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of MAG, shared that the Group remains focused on growing with purpose by strengthening its network, reconnecting established markets and investing in capabilities that support both airlines and customers.

With Kuala Lumpur positioned as an increasingly important regional aviation hub, MAG is also enhancing the journey beyond just air connectivity — from expanding destinations to improving onboard experiences, including in-flight dining services.

Malaysia Airlines Returns to Busan After Nearly Three Decades

One of the most exciting announcements is the return of Malaysia Airlines to Busan, South Korea, beginning 2 December 2026.

After last operating the route between 1996 and 1998, Malaysia Airlines will reconnect Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Busan (PUS) with four weekly flights operated by its Boeing 737-8 aircraft.

The new route will complement the airline’s existing services to Seoul, giving travellers more options when planning their South Korea adventures.

Malaysia Airlines will also become the only airline offering non-stop connectivity between Kuala Lumpur and Busan, making it easier for travellers to explore the city’s stunning coastline, vibrant food markets and charming hillside neighbourhoods.

To celebrate the launch, Malaysia Airlines will offer introductory all-in return fares to Busan starting from:

✈️ Economy Class: RM2,139*
✈️ Business Class: RM4,999*

Firefly Expands International Network with Kunming Flights

Meanwhile, Firefly is preparing to make its first entry into China with new direct services to Kunming (KMG), operated by its Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Known as China’s “Spring City”, Kunming offers travellers a refreshing blend of natural beauty, cultural diversity and culinary discoveries. Visitors can explore iconic attractions such as the Stone Forest and Dianchi Lake, while experiencing the unique heritage of Yunnan.

The upcoming Kunming service will further strengthen MAG’s presence in China and complement Malaysia Airlines’ existing connectivity within the country.

Details on flight schedules and ticket sales will be announced soon.

More Flights to Fukuoka, Brisbane and Surabaya

Responding to growing travel demand, Malaysia Airlines will also increase flight frequencies across several popular international routes.

From 1 December 2026, flights to Fukuoka, Japan will increase from five weekly services to daily operations, following the route’s resumption on 2 September 2026.

Malaysia Airlines remains the only carrier providing non-stop flights between Kuala Lumpur and Fukuoka.

Travellers heading to Australia will also enjoy more options, with flights to Brisbane increasing to daily services from 25 October 2026, featuring the airline’s next-generation Airbus A330neo aircraft.

Meanwhile, services to Surabaya, Indonesia will increase from 14 to 16 flights weekly from 1 November 2026, providing greater access to East Java’s business, cultural and natural attractions.

Elevating Malaysia Airlines’ In-Flight Dining Experience

Beyond expanding its flight network, MAG is also investing in improving the onboard experience through the continued development of MAG Culinary Solutions (MAGCS).

Following the insourcing of Malaysia Airlines’ catering operations in 2023 and the establishment of MAGCS in September 2025, customer satisfaction for in-flight dining has improved from 72% to 78%, while catering on-time performance has reached an impressive 99.9%.

The next major milestone will be the development of MAGCS’ own in-flight catering facility near KLIA, with construction groundwork beginning in July 2026.

Expected to be completed in Q4 2028 and operational by Q2 2029, the facility will have the capacity to produce around 50,000 meals daily, almost doubling current handling capabilities.

The new facility will not only enhance food quality and operational efficiency but also create employment opportunities and support MAG’s airlines as well as third-party carriers.

New Experiences for Younger Travellers

Malaysia Airlines is also making journeys more enjoyable for families with the introduction of new in-flight products for younger travellers.

From 1 September 2026, passengers can look forward to:

🦁 Malaysian Safari Activity Pack
🎧 Kids Headphones
🍼 Baby Blankets

These thoughtful additions are designed according to different age groups and flight durations, ensuring younger travellers have a more comfortable and engaging journey.

Strengthening Malaysia’s Position as a Regional Aviation Hub

With these latest developments, Malaysia Aviation Group continues to strengthen Kuala Lumpur’s role as a regional aviation gateway while supporting Visit Malaysia 2026 and Malaysia Airlines’ ambition to become one of the world’s Top 10 global airlines by 2030.

From reconnecting travellers with exciting destinations like Busan and Kunming to enhancing the onboard experience, MAG’s latest initiatives reflect its commitment to delivering greater choice, better service and a more seamless travel experience for passengers worldwide.

For travellers planning their next adventure, the skies are opening up with more possibilities
