The Labs at Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC), in collaboration with M&M Creations Holdings Sdn. Bhd., is bringing Malaysian creativity to life through The Labs: Artist Series, a creative programme that combines art, technology, immersive experiences, merchandise and interactive activities.

Instead of just looking at artworks on a wall, visitors get to step into the creative worlds of local artists and experience their stories in different ways. How cool is that?

A Creative Playground for Malaysian Homegrown Talent

The Artist Series brings together four Malaysian intellectual property (IP) brands… Pasaroly, Guji Guji, The Good Boisss and Oh! Doodlez, alongside mural artists Jefr Studio and Novak Batik.

Each creative brings something different to the table, transforming The Labs into a vibrant platform where art, culture, technology and real-life experiences come together.

From physical installations and murals to immersive digital content, merchandise and interactive activities, there are plenty of ways for visitors to discover and connect with Malaysian creativity.

And what makes this programme even more interesting is that it evolves with the festive seasons, giving visitors new reasons to return and explore different creative worlds throughout the series.

Four Malaysian IPs… Four Festive Chapters!

The Artist Series features four creative chapters, each inspired by a different festive season and theme.

Pasaroly – Merdeka & Malaysia Day

The programme kicks off with Pasaroly, an IP inspired by Malaysian neighbourhoods, familiar local flavours and everyday community moments.

Think of the little things that make Malaysia feel like home… our neighbourhoods, food, familiar faces and the simple moments we often take for granted.

Pasaroly brings these everyday Malaysian experiences into a cheerful, contemporary illustrated world that celebrates the charm of local life.

Guji Guji – Mid-Autumn Festival

Next up is Guji Guji, bringing a creative twist to Mid-Autumn with its “Meet Me On The Moon” theme.

It offers another imaginative world for visitors to discover as the programme moves into the festive season.

The Good Boisss – Halloween

For Halloween, The Good Boisss will bring its own creative interpretation of Malaysian street and neighbourhood culture.

Expect another fresh chapter with a different style and perspective!

Oh! Doodlez – Year-End Festive Season

Rounding off the programme is Oh! Doodlez, with its colourful and whimsical creative world, bringing a playful touch to the year-end festive celebrations.

With four different IPs and creative directions, the Artist Series promises a constantly evolving experience rather than a one-time exhibition.

Pasaroly… Where Malaysian Neighbourhood Stories Come Alive!

I love how Pasaroly takes inspiration from things that are so familiar to us Malaysians and turns them into something fun, colourful and creative.

As the opening chapter of the Artist Series, Pasaroly invites visitors to explore its world through different experiences at The Labs and Immersify Kuala Lumpur.

You can discover the dedicated Pasaroly showcase at The Labs’ Ground Floor foyer, before heading over to Zone 6 of Immersify Kuala Lumpur to experience its immersive digital content.

And the experience doesn’t stop there!

Visitors can also explore interactive campaign activities and a curated merchandise collection at M&M Cafe, giving them the opportunity to bring a little piece of Pasaroly home.

Following the encouraging public response to the campaign, a special media walk-through was also held, welcoming media, KOLs and bloggers to experience the collaboration first-hand.

It was a great opportunity to discover how a Malaysian IP can move beyond illustrations and digital content into a physical, interactive and immersive experience.

More Than Just an Exhibition… Turning Malaysian IPs into Real Experiences

One of the most interesting things about this collaboration is how it aims to give Malaysian creative talent opportunities beyond simply showcasing their artwork.

M&M Creations is the IP collaboration and commercialisation partner for the programme, working closely with The Labs and Immersify Kuala Lumpur to bring the participating IPs to life.

This includes curating and coordinating the IPs, integrating their content into immersive experiences, developing merchandise, planning audience engagement activities and exploring opportunities to connect these creative brands with wider commercial platforms.

In simple terms, it is about helping Malaysian creators bring their original ideas into the real world… through immersive technology, retail, merchandise, events and consumer experiences.

As Ben Lee, CEO of M&M Creations Holdings Sdn. Bhd., shared:

“This collaboration is about giving Malaysian IPs a bigger stage.”

And that is an important part of the programme… creating more opportunities for local creators to grow their brands and reach audiences beyond the traditional exhibition space.

A New Urban Playground for Creativity in Kuala Lumpur

According to Azril Rashid, Chief Operating Officer of BBCC, The Labs was created for people to experience culture in ways they cannot experience elsewhere.

With the Artist Series, the space is being handed over to Malaysian homegrown talents, inviting the public to make, play and celebrate alongside them throughout the festive season.

For visitors, it means discovering new artists and creative worlds in an interactive setting.

For local creators, it opens up opportunities to experiment, tell their stories and connect with wider audiences.

And for Malaysian IPs, it creates potential pathways into retail, merchandise, events, immersive experiences, licensing, tourism and brand collaborations.

My Take… Why This Is Worth Discovering

As someone who enjoys discovering creative experiences and supporting local talents, I think what makes The Labs: Artist Series interesting is the way it brings Malaysian creativity closer to the public.

Sometimes, we see amazing local illustrations, characters and creative brands online, but we don’t always get the chance to experience them beyond our screens.

Here, visitors can explore these creative worlds through physical showcases, immersive content, interactive activities and even merchandise they can take home.

I also like that the programme is designed around different festive seasons. There will be something new to discover as the creative chapters change, making it a reason to revisit The Labs throughout the programme.

And of course, with the opening chapter inspired by Malaysian neighbourhoods and everyday local culture, Pasaroly is a lovely reminder that creativity can come from the little things that make Malaysia special.
