Some friends invited me over to Muar for a little trip, and being someone who loves to travel, I said yes, (since I also did not have much on)…
We headed down in her CRV and stopped at our hotel to check in and put our bags… After deciding that we should explore the little Royal Town of Muar better on foot…
I was just excited about checking out the murals.. I mean I have saw some of the murals during my previous trip to Muar but my friends told me there were new ones and I was just impatient to discover them.. I love murals and marvel at how artists can draw them so perfectly on such huge walls…
We were staying at the Classic Hotel Muar and oh wow, did you know that this hotel has a mall just right next door? I love hotels like this because it is so convenient to pop next door for a snack, any toiletries and stuff you might have overlooked.. Extra clothing or such…..
So we have the Wetex Parade.. Hmm… Sister mall to Subang Parade, Mahkota Parade, Kulim Central, Segamat Central and Central Square…
Actually I think my friends told me this is the only shopping mall in Muar, and yeah.. considering I did not see any other malls this is it.. And well, this shopping centre is also known as a destination for jewellery.. We stopped by Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf for a drink while waiting for check in time..
My friends suggested staying at Classic Hotel Muar as is one of the largest hotels in Muar with 156 rooms and comes with largest ballroom in Muar with a seating capacity of 800, and of course, the main reason is that it is also within walking distance of downtown’s major attractions…
So we managed to check in to the hotel and I was pleased to find my Superior King Room spacious, with a super comfy bed and a reasonably spacious and cool bathroom.. A little old fashion considering we needed to bathe in the bathtub but hey.. we can also soak in the bathtub!!!!
Address – Classic Hotel Muar, 69, Jalan Ali, Pekan Muar, 84000 Muar

We then headed to check out the murals..
And we found some amazing ones like the Action Actress behind the Kwong Sui building, and also the Root of World Furniture and Opera on the Muar Furniture Association building…
We also check out Muar Yi, a Tourism Info Centre housed in a gorgeous periodic bungalow,..
…and past by Glutton Street… Well known for its (not so halal) food…
Address – Muar Yi, 33, Jalan Ali, Pekan Muar, 84000 Muar

Walking is good exercise and I try to make it the recommended minimum 10,000 steps a day but it is not easy when you are working or just in KL doing nothing much… So when I get an opportunity to walk when travelling I am excited…
We walked all the way to Downtown Muar and saw the beautiful and famous murals The Bond- between a woman and a black tiger..
And then headed into Muar Cultural. Street where there were so many murals on the cultures of Muar and of course Malaysia.. This place is just a dream for photographs and practising your photography skills
… and also the Loving Sisters… (I have always wanted a picture with this but it has never been easy to stop for a moment when driving) and well, I dfinally get to take a pic now….
Once tired and hungry, we headed to Sai Kee Coffee 434 for some coffee and food.. My friends ordered their dishes.. I wasn’t so hungry so I just ordered a couple of Otak Otak Buns and also a Durian Cake and omg…the two did not disappoint.. On the contrary it was almost orgasmic.. Definitely better then sex.. (hahaha)
Address – Sai Kee Coffee 434, 121, Jalan Maharani, Taman Sri Emas, 84000 Muar
One of my friend insisted she wanted to go see the Muar Art Gallery (being a fan of art) and so we agreed to accompany her.. We headed back to the hotel to get the car..
The Muar Art Gallery is a row of shop houses interconnected..
It is an event space, a mini art gallery, a cafe….
And there is a small wooden toys workshop and yes the other end there is a shell out restaurant… All very clean, stylish and instaworthy.. With copies of the Bond and the Loving Sisters Murals on the wall…
They have art markets, flea markets or bazaars here at the back lane too… Which is one of the prettiest backlanes I have seen as well..
Address – Muar Art Gallery, 66-1, Jalan Hang Tuah, Taman Junid Perdana, 84000 Muar

From here I told my friends I wanted to go to Tanjung Emas for sunset.. Tanjung Emas is a square and Park at the estuary of the Muar River.. And obviously the water here is from the sea considering the many jelly fishes in the river we spotted today…
This is another gorgeous and instaworthy spot in Muar with a gorgeous clock tower and near the riverbank there is a I love Muar spot with even the Sultan of Johor’s photo cheekily making a heart sign…
And you can even check out an old train there.. Did you know Muar used to have a railway and it was the second railway in Malaysia…
Address – Tanjung Emas Park, Taman Sri Tanjung, 84000 Muar
After we contented ourselves with the photos, my friend drove us to Isa Asam Pedas at Parit Jawa…. For some Assam Pedas… We had a good dinner here with nice Cincaru and Pomfret Assam Pedas… Sambal belacan, vegetable, omelette, fried chicken and fried Cincaru…
Address – Isa Asam Pedas, 84150 Parit Jawa
Our last stop for the day was at the Muar Back Lane, off Jalan Sisi, for some Cendol Kampung Hulu and some Mango Royale Float… I opted for the Mango Royale Float of course… Hehehe
There are also many interesting murals here…
Address – Jalan Sisi, Pekan Muar, 84000 Muar
Then it was back to our hotel for some much needed Zzzs since it was a pretty active day….
I heard there was a Choral Speaking Final happening at the Classic Hotel Maharani Ballroom, under the “Piala Hektar” and well, Shreiyaa, my schoolmate’s daughter from SMK Subang Utama was one of the participants, so I decided to go check it out…
I am proud of Shreiyaa and her team.. They were the first team to present their take on “The use of Social Media for a Greener Future” and they definitely impressed everyone with their wit and wisdom…
Choral Speaking is a competition that aims at encouraging and increasing the use of English among students.. It helps to build confidence in students as they have to memorize, speak, and express themselves in English…
Anyway, the Piala Hektar is the Grand Finale featuring the 6 winning schools from the 6 districts where a Hektar Mall is located.. Shreiyaa and her team mates from SMK Subang Utama brought home the championship prize of RM6000, trophy and certificates, again.. considering they also won last year’s “Piala Hektar”… The other teams received RM500 each…
We headed across the road to the A Luck Kopitiam, OK.. its actually the back lane but it’s also a short cut.. For some simple and staple breakfast of toast breads and half boiled eggs…
A Luck Kopitiam has a variety of interesting toasts.. And my friend decided we should try them all.. And my verdict? Yummy, yummy… Love the garlic bread and also the old fashion butter kaya…
Address – A Luck Kopitiam, Jalan Sisi, Pekan Muar, 84000 Muar
We then headed back to the hotel to pack and check out..
For lunch, we headed to the next street, Satay Warisan for some Satay, Soto and Mee Rebus.. I had some Mee Rebus which was pretty tasty but slightly a bit too sweet for me as I don’t like my food too sweet or my drinks sugar laden either… The satay was good, even for one who does not really enjoy satay like me…
Address – Satay Warisan, 13, Jalan Majidi, Taman Sri Tanjung, 84000 Muar
From Satay Warisan, we then headed to Yong Sheng Concept Store to buy some Nyonya and Teochew kind of snacks…
The shop here is seriously instaworthy and beautiful and there is also a cafe upstairs…
Address – Yong Sheng Gift Shop, Lower Level, Lot 1965, Batu 3 1/2, Jalan Bakri, 84000 Muar
Website – https://www.yongsheng.com.my/
And that was the end of our little trip to Muar… It was short and sweet but I had an amazing and fun time discovering all the artsy spots with my friends and enjoyed some of the good food Muar had to offer… Hope to be back soon for more….
Described very well….
