Hotel Review 2020 – Modern Hotel Penang

Modern Hotel is an elegant 4-star boutique hotel housed in an Art Nouveau building right at the junction of Leith Street and Muntri Street in George Town, Penang…

The classy heritage building comes with a colonaded five-foot way which wraps around the front, from Leith Street to Muntri Street.. The building was build back in 1920 but the hotel interiors has been tastefully refurbished, well-lit and inviting, inspired by classic black and white movies that reminisce the good old days of Penang..

And indeed, the beautiful monotone colour scheme when blended with heritage elements, created a striking visual impact which is also instagrammable for the guests staying at the hotel….

Checking in was a breeze, and I could barely stop my eyes from wandering around the reception area which had been beautifully tiled and had “Modern Hotel” written in Chinese in neon on the wall…

The staircase heading to the 1st and 2nd floor is another Instagram spot, since it is at it was years ago, just beautifully refurbished with some black paint…

On the 1st floor, there’s a very interesting white wall with different items painted in white attached to it.. This very Instagram-worthy wall comes with a bench for you to take photos of…

The rooms on the 1st floor and the rooms on the 2nd floor differ in some ways…

I took the room on the 1st floor which came with a spacious bedroom, a king sized bed, and a bathtub in the covered balcony of each room, with walls clad with monotone heritage tiles to create a stunning full-height feature wall…

My good friends Nel and Faiz had the room on the 2nd floor which was so spacious, came with a king sized bed, a bigger glass bathroom with the bathtub inside the bathroom…

The room also had a balcony which was opened….. And oh, I forgot to mention, these bathtubs all come with shower gel, bath salts and a scented bath bomb!!!!!! Such wonderful indulgence..

The hotel came with a small dipping pool /jacuzzi as well as sun loungers on the open balcony of the 2nd floor too…

I also love that this stylish hotel is just so strategically located at Jalan Muntri, which is close to many streets with good food to eat… There is a convenient store right in opposite the road, the Cheong Fatt Tze Blue Mansion is also barely a few minutes walk etc.. etc…
